How long did it take you....

How long did it take you to produce a cue that felt right to you?

What I mean is, when you first started making cues, would you play with something you made even though you didn't really like the hit or feel of the cue? Afterall, Who wants to buy a cue from someone that doesn't play with one of their own? Would pride get in the way of your game?

I know it takes a while to tweek your specs to where you're completely satisfied, but until you produce that cue that really suits you, would you play with another makers cue? Just wondering.

I played with my own cues from the very beginning. I get some grief from people though, because I almost always use a sneaky pete :D

I guess I got lucky I had it on my 2nd cue... but I believe it had something to do with the shaft taper. I experimented on 2 tapers I was workin on at that time for the 1st and 2nd cue. Found the charm on the 2nd. Had a chance to hit and play with 5 different cues from different CM's at one time... went back to mine. I guess it's a combination of personal preference and what a cuemaker/player is used to.

There are a lot of cues out there that hit good... but "a good hit" is very subjective.
The only thing I'm sure of is if hits "crappy"for my taste LOL

I believe every cuemakers' aim is to produce an excellent cue which would cater not only to his preference but to other players as well... when it happens - chaching!!!

I just finished my first cue and i play with it. I also like it. I played with a Pechauer for the last 5 - 6 years and before that a meucci, and i liked both. Both were sneaky petes. I think i like the wood to wood joint. I think as long as it hits well i can play with anything as long as i get used to it. But i cant change cues from day to day.

My first cue felt good to me, but I felt it could be improved. I tried a few different things for the next three or four that were not improvements in the hit. Probably around the tenth one was when I achieved the hit I wanted. My cues still play pretty much the same since then. I have got better at selecting woods for various hits, but other than that they still have that same hit.
