To be as good as you can as quickly as possible may be a better question. I'd start by seeing a pro instructor to get rid of all the bad habits you don't even know you have. My first lesson many years ago was to help me with my 9ball break. The instructor quickly saw how bad I was and refused to teach me how to blow the rack apart for the other guy to run out. My stroke was crooked and it was pure luck and perfect timing that allowed me to pocket any balls at all.
Then lots of drills and gambling IMHO. Drills for consistancy and gambling to develope nerves under pressure and heart.
I've heard a few pros went from short stop speed to high level pro in 18 months after they quit their jobs and played all day every day. I had a buddy get two balls better in only three months after he was laid off from his job. And forget about having a girlfriend/wife. You may as well be wearing an eyepatch or a boxing glove for what they can do to your pool game. Good luck!
