How many Cues are sold in the US?

Can someone give me some data on cue sales in the US?

From some brief internet searching I've learned that the billiard industry turned over about $230 million in 2003 according to the Sproting Goods Manufacturers Association www.sgma.com

I've read Predator sells around 50,000 cues per year and perhaps the biggest cue sellers sell around 150,000 cues per year. This would suggest there are around 1 million cues sold per year in the US.

What I would like to know is real data including how many sales for different companies and different categories of cues from custom to the crappy pub cues.

Table or other billiard product or even club sales figures would be appreciated too.

Any comments appreciated.

yawn!

Seems the cue experts here don't care much for giving out industry info....

...or maybe noone here knows anything about the industry...go figure!

I'm pretty sure most of the major cue companies are privately held therefore they do not post sales figures.

I could guess but I would probably be wrong. Cuetec, McDermott, Viking, and Meucci might each sell between 20 and 30 thousand every year. Maybe more. Does that help?

I don't think that there is a reliable way to get that data. The big boys aren't going to give it up. What you can do is try and extrapolate the numbers from the SGMA report, the P&B Magazine surveys and the import data at the US Customs website.

I don't know what the 230 million number from the SGMA contains but the whole industry in the US is worth roughly 500 million of which a healthy chunk is table sales.

Please report back to us if you happen to come up with a number that you feel is fairly accurate.

Thanks guys.

Some companies like Predator give sales volume estimations but it's hard to tell if this is accurate or a marketing pitch.

I'll be happy to let you know what I find out.

I guess the SGMA figures do not include the revenue from Pool Halls which I guess far exceeds billiard procust sales.

Perhaps someone can rank the biggest cue sellers in rough order.

I think I read the Scorpion range does around 150,000 cues per year.
