How many cues can you get

I was fortunate enough to get a 3"/2.5"/33" piece of Brazillian Rosewood. I am in the process of starting a collection of Same Hard wood with veneers cue (ie Rosewood on Rosewood, Ebony on Ebony, etc....) I have one cue on its way and should have two other custom builders ready to work on my cues shortly. Assuming that these were short splice cues/full splice cues how many cues would I be able to get?

Do rosewood on rosewood full splice cues have a maple handle to help balance the cue?

Also would it be to worth it to buy a bunch of 5"/.5" squares of Brazilian rosewood to get the most out of this piece of wood?

Howdy SSach,
Given you're going for a full-splice forearm, you'll be doing well to get one cue out of this pc. Even then, you're going to have to be a little bit creative and make no mistakes in your cutting. But before you do any cutting at all, get a moisture content reading. That's going to determine how long you're going to be waiting for your cue or if you'll even have a cue to wait on.

If you cut it straight you will only get one cue. If you cut it with a bandsaw at a slight angle leaving it about 1.4" at one end and 1" at the other end then slice those two 3" wide pieces down the middle, you can get 4 one piece butts out of that piece of wood.

How many

You may want to consider how you want the grain and figure in the wood displayed. Instead of cutting the wood for maximum yield think about maximum effect. Sometimes you have to waste alot of wood to get to the primo stuff.
