How many shafts and why?

I have four simply to have 2 matched sets (2 original 13mm, 2 OB-1's) in case I pop a tip on the one I'm playing with I can put on a new shaft that plays the same and keep going without the adjustment. For the last 6 months I've been playing the OB-1s.

Is there a reason to have more shafts than that, other than preferences changing over time?

eight for the same reasons as yours however I just could not help my self and had to try a fewwwwwwwwwww more

Yup, thats why a cue should have two shafts. For those who have a separate break cue its not a bad idea to have two ---- just in case. For the last 10 years I have played, breaked and jumped with the same cue - just built myself a break cue and will try it out tonight - haven't hit a single ball with it yet.
 
I've been testing a Z2 on my Sailor playing cue and have come to the conclusion that it will be a permanent addition. I'll be ordering a second one with a .850 joint and a xhard Talisman tip.

We have a winner! I guess I'm luck I liked the OB-1 and settled early... how many specialty shafts are out there...

I have 2 as well for the same reason...just in case I pop a tip. They are identical Predator 314/2s.

Personally, I think it is a mistake to jump around between different shafts. This bloody game is hard enough without having to adjust to different shafts.

I think a lot of people do it when they get out of stroke but IMHO the better way to get back in is to have a set of specific MUST DO set up and stroke mechanics and shoot a series of EASY straight in stop shots...3 footers...then switch to draw shots...making sure that I am doing EACH of my MUST DOs.

20-30 shots seems to get me right back in stroke.


I've written mine down on a 3x5 card that is stuffed in my case.
