How much does the butt matter for LD shafts?

Kinda like something else we can relate to..................our butts help get the action going but it's the shaft that makes the magic happen. ;)

The performance of the cue (as a whole) is in the tip, ferrule, and shaft -- The butt, while absolutely necessary, plays a minor role.

However...

Yes, in my heart I believe the tip and the shaft are the key to performance and the butt is mostly for show. (I will be honest here and say I have not owned many cues and I am not a great player. This is a belief on my part.)

However: consider the Meucci robot videos. Bob Meucci made those videos to showcase the black dot shaft, but the videos also illustrate that different butts perform differently with (supposedly) the "same shaft." Hmmm.

However, I suspect that the pins and joints are different for each cue, so there is no way to account for how much contribution they are having. Also, since the joints and pins are different, there was probably a different black dot shaft for each cue, too.

Just food for thought...

This is another argument for objective testing and performance parameters to cut through the marketing BS and player myths.

Unless you specify what "illustrates" and "performs" means, that statement is meaningless. Do you mean the same shaft with different butts were shown to produce different amounts of squirt on the video?

Yes, although that is not why Bob Meucci originally posted those videos.

If you watch them, he compares the squirt of the stock shaft with the squirt of a Meucci Black Dot shaft, arguing that the Meucci shaft produces less squirt each time on a variety of cue butts.

But if you "resort the data," you also have a comparison of how different cue butts perform when they are all connected to Meucci Black Dot shafts.

There are differences. So, even though I am in the "shaft is most important camp," we have objective evidence that there are differences.

I already noted that I think different Black Dots were used, but that's about as close to an experimental control as I have seen so far.

??? I am calling bullshit on this one!

I might be talked into buying the joint argument... But I have to draw the line at inlays making a difference in the hit.

Weight and balance point..if those are the same then there isnt going to be a big difference at all.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! I never said I personally could tell a difference, but the more holes you put in a piece of wood does make a difference!!!!! I read a huge article about it... why do you think most sneaky petes hit so well.... Believe me I am an avid lover of inlays. I play with a Danny Stout with over a hundred separate and combined inlays. Its an opinion though, you don't have to call it bullshit!!!!!!!!

I shoot with the Lucasi Hybrid shaft. One of my cues is a custom with radial wood to wood, the other is a 5/16-14 piloted. They both hit pretty much the same , i can go from 1 to the other with no worries at all.
