I was reading another post about who you would want to be your teacher, and it got me thinking. If someone like Efren wasn't a "teacher" so to speak, you could get him to gamble with you, and learn that way maybe? BUT how much or little money would he play for?

BTW, my first teachers (Andy Toth, Dave Marks) started out pounding me relentlessly gambling, then took a liking to me, and took me under thier wing. So My idea is kinda like that, but with Efren. It worked out to be worth every penny I lost to them and then some!

Efren's known to play cheap, even up. Go to the US Open, if you catch Efren at Q Masters, ask to play him a race to 3, 8-8, One hole for 50. Best $50 bucks you'll ever spend.

No kiddin!?....I'd play him all day a race to 3 for $50...At that price, I'd be embarrassed to ask for weight....:D

Last year at the Derby City Classic, for learning purposes Mika was playing Efren some one-pocket for $35/set.

I can't imagine a serious pool player who wouldn't be willing to pay Efren $50 to play three games of one-pocket.

I wonder how much I'd have to pay him to play me a race to 7 in 8-ball.

I played Efren race to 3, 9-ball for $100. He would have played race to 7 for $50 but I felt bad about keeping him up late the night before an important match, and also grateful to him for substituting in our Celebrity tournament on such short notice.

I think he loves to play. He was playing some one-pocket last year (before DCC) with one of the women pro's for $10 a game.

How long is a race to 3 going to take? Maybe 1/2 hour give or take. If that is the only way I could get Efren's time, I'd certainly do it. But I'd ask him for a coaching 1 hour lesson first for maybe $150. He'd make out better per hour and I'd make out better because he'd be giving me personalized advice.

He came by the poolroom a few years ago and stayed for a few hours, playing everyone $50 races to 5 9-ball. Then one guy asked him to play him some 1-pocket at $50 per game, getting 10-8. I was next in line to play Efren. They ended up playing for the rest of his time there, Efren won like 12 games in a row, and towards the end Efren got really tired and left a shot and the guy ran 8 and out. This guy had just donated over $500 and he was happy as I've ever seen him. He looks over at me and says "sweeeet!!!" Efren seemed to have the flu at the time and I could tell he wanted to leave, but the guy just kept handing him more and more money. Efren won a few more games and the guy finally quit him. In reality for a fair match, the guy would need something like 15-4 to even have a chance of winning. But the guy supposedly has alot of money so him losing over a few hundred was nothing, and I'm sure Efren didn't mind a score of closely a $1,000 in total from everyone after playing for about 8 hours. He looked so tired I knew he didn't want to play anymore, so I didn't ask.
