How much tip?

It depends on what he/she charges. If it's a real real good deal, then tip. If not -- no tip.

thanks! i'm having my table re-covered tomorrow, i was just wondering if i'm required to tip or not. thanks again!

It also may depend on wheather they work for someone else or they are independent table mechanics. I would be more inclined to tip if they worked for someone else, because the indepentdent table mechanic gets the profits in the first place.

When I was installing tables, we almost never got tips but every once in awhile we would. Something like 5 or 10 bucks. I got 20 bucks once to change the legs. That was pretty cool. At the very least, give the guy a soda while he's there.

he is working for someone else. so, how much do you think is reasonable, both for me and him? :)

Like someone else mentioned earlier, I would say it depends on how much you are being charged. If it is $50-$100 cheaper then most, I don't see anything wrong with $10-$20. It also depends on how good a job they did and how nice they were. If they did a bad job and were jerks about it, I would ask them for $10-$20 back.

Thanks, sir!

Well think of it like this,

If the person didnt re-cloth your table and rails, how would the table play?

After they did re-cloth the table and rails, how does it play now? If it plays like its brand new or better then, yes i would tip the guy.

Plus if they are working for Joe's company, they are probably only getting X amount of $ for doing it, while Joe's company pockets the rest of the money.

And if they did a great job of getting the cloth tight and this and that, I'd totally tip the guy 25-50$. Plus, if the guy did a excellent job, I'd be like, ya know i have some friends of mine who also have tables, and exchange #'s so he could have some side work too, and make some extra money. Anytime i get excellent work done by someone I always spread the word.
