How often do you have an off day?

A day where you are shooting worse than you know you are capable of? What do you think are the causes and how do you deal with it?

Pretty much every day ;)
For me, I think it's usually fatigue, improper warmup, or just plain laziness.

If it continues for longer than a couple of days, I'll have to go back to my fundamentals and weed out any bad habits that may have crept into my stance/stroke.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking their good to great days are their average days.

I shoot worse then I am capable of 99.5% of the time but that does not mean I am having an off
day, it simply means my "speed" is not what I can do on that once a year occasion where I run
out from everywhere.

I don't know about an off day, as I don't play for hours at a time anymore to tell that, but I can say that even after layoffs of one month or more, I start running racks right off the bat. It's like I never missed a day of pool. I give Mark Wilson's book credit for that. It's not so much that I didn't know just about everything in his book. It drilled into my head what is important and what's not. It unclogged my brain of all the bad habits I picked up over 50-60 years. Now I shoot like I did when I shot my best pool. Johnnyt

Any time in tired. Tiredness ruins me and I get frustrated. I'm just not mentally switched on and I should know better and just stop playing and get some sleep...but I don't.

how so? can you explain what was in the book?

Statistics is a cruel subject.

You are basically playing::
below average 1/3rd of the time
equal to average 1/3rd of the time
above average 1/3rd of the time

But this reminds me of the joke where a politician was unaware that 1/2 of his constituents were below average.....

I really never have a bad day on the table. Some days I'm more focused than others. Usually if my focus is off I'm playing faster than normal. I usually look for a better player in the room to match up with. It helps me focus because you cannot miss easy shots through lack of focus with a better player because you know you may be sitting for a while if you miss. A wager will also help my focus. Amazing how well that works.
