How often do you replace your tip?

I have duds on most of my shafts and rarely change them. Had one cue with the same milk duds going on 3 years, but I don't play with it regularly. But I find they still hold chalk fine.

thanks for the response! Did you burnish them or anything when you put them on?

I wet the sidewall of the tip with a little spit and burnish it with a piece of leather, don't know if it is the best way, but it works

thats what i do with normal tips, but i heard milk duds crumble if you try it?

Once you have found a tip you like, how often do you replace it?

Also include tip brand, hardness, and how much you play, if you cut part of it off to begin with, if you break with it, etc.

My current shooting cue, ... I believe I've had the same Triangle on it for about 3 years.

I don't scuff or tap, so this is very reasonable.

The maker put them on when I got the cue (Mike Johnson who makes his own). I believe he uses a marker to die the sides of them. Mike makes great tips and you can buy them from him.

I'd like to see if anyone has experience with the milk duds and can respond to this, I am also thinking about putting milk duds on my main shooter right now, I have been playing with my Schmelke for around 3 months, it looks like an Elk Master, but I always use my willard dime on it to scuff it because I don't have a tip pick, so mine wears a bit faster than normal, I just dont like it when my tip gets that shinny look on it, it seems to make me miscue, or it could be just me.

Are you talking about the milk duds?

I do my own tips, and I have tried just about all of them....cept some of the layered.

I used LePros for 15 years....then switched to Talisman Med.....now to either Elkmaster, or Triangle.....both are great, and the one on my 314-2 now has been there for 9 months...

Tips

For a medium-hard tip, I replace it about every 200-300 hours of play.

That sounds about right, when I played all the time I replaced my tip every 4-6 weeks.

I've used Triangle,Triumph,Blue Diamond,LePro,and Hercules Layered.....
the Hercules is my favorite, very seldom miscue with it, and I always break with my stick!

I always cary cue tip repair supplies with me, and can replace one in 10 minutes if need be.( and besides it's a quick way to pick-up some extra $ )

I have had my own cue for a little over a year and a half and i have went through about 2 tips.

Moori med or hard. Cut about 2/3 it off immediately, and replace within a month or two, depending on how many7 hours per week I play. I hate money!

Very seldom do I need to change tips from wear. But I play with tips that, once broken in, are low maintenance. I'm not one of those guys who is always sanding his tip. I've known plenty who did, though.

1. Elk Master, we think, but not sure.

2. Medium, if I have a choice.

3. Daily, usually.

4. Never cut it.

5. Don't break with it.

I play with a Moori S and I replace it maybe once a year. On my break-cue, which is over 15 years old, I've had only 2 tips. The first one was a "hand-compressed" triangle which lasted for maybe 9 years until I replaced with a phenolic tip which has been on ever since.
