How "Pure" can the M Cup Voting Process be?

All we know (that I am aware of) is that starting Monday, we can vote at www.Matchroompool.com for US' remaining spot.

What's the best way for an online voting process to maintain the integrity of the vote?

Registration tied to an IP address?

I REALLY want to believe this process will result in the voting public's true choice, but the internet voting system may have some weaknesses.



BTW, what's the over/under on # of votes cast? Pot shot salvo: 172,536.
 
I could have misinterpreted this, but I read the procedure for counting votes. When you vote on that site, there is an Active X control that captures your retna data. If you attempt to vote again, that control shoots a fine stream of lemon juice into your eye ball and you hear a sound byte that says "WTF do you think you are doing?"

Like I said, this is how I interpreted it.
 
After much thought and deliberation I've changed my mind on how the voting process should be handled...
We should each get to vote once and in person and only after having provided two forms of identification (one of which being a photo id.) After our votes have been counted and tallied, a non-partisan committee should be formed to determine if we're smart enough and informed enough to have voted for the right person and if not over rule our vote and go with whomever they deem appropriate. ;)

The way I'd do it (and it by no means is 100% full proof) is make everyone create an account to login to vote, base this off their e-mail address, require them to click a link that is sent to that e-mail address and combine this with IP address logging and/or placing a cookie on each machine/browser that's already voted...it would be a royal pain in the butt for one person to rack up very many multiple votes.

Not impossible mind you...but more trouble than it's worth for something like this.

You'd really really really have to want to see a particular person get voted onto the team to mess with getting around it...and even then there would be no guarantee.

Oh...and for the record...this is for the Matchroom Sports voting or similar types of things...I would in no way shape or form condone this for anything really important like government elections...lol

Thanks jwilliams, that sounds like a reasonable way to limit fraud best you can. I gotta send you a virus, err, rep for that! ;)

So...I've changed my opinion to now more accurately the changing of the times...;)

(Your edited suggested procedure does have a lot of merit though! Ya gotta watch out for these pool characters... ;))
