How to fix a black(cloudy) leather wrap? PT2

I just posted a thread about this in the "Main Forum", but was advised to ask here.

My dad gave me my grandpa's Willie Hoppe Professional cue recently. Before he gave it to me he decided to "clean" it up. He used leather cleaner on the original wrap. Of course this removed some of the color and made it look faded/cloudy. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Go get some black leather dye for shoes and apply it. Then put neutral shoe polish over that. Both products have sponge tips on the top of the bottles for easy application.

What Chris said, but...use some painter's tape to mask off the wood/wrap line on both ends so the dye doesn't end up on the wood area.

I agree with all of the above.

I will also add that if you see a shoe leather "sealer" or "protectant" and are tempted to finish with that, avoid it unless you know 100% for sure what's in it and that it is OK. Some of those contain silicone which you should keep away from any pool cue.

Thanks everyone!

I have received great advice on how to fix the wrap. If JNP's idea in the other forum doesn't work, I'll try yours. They are both very similar, just different applicators really. Thanks again.

Great advice here. Yes, prep it properly. Thanks

Thanks Chopdoc. Wasn't planning on a sealer but that's good to know.
