how to get to vegas through APA

I am not going to bash bcapl like you are apa but instead will make a couple of observations based on your comments.

Fees...yearly fess are about the same but apa is a money grubber and bcapl is not ?

Nationals....after you pay roughly 300.00 a year for either league you earm the spot at nationals in apa where you are given money to cover your air fare and rooms. Plus a lil spending money...plus another approximately 350.00 for the team when you arrive in Vegas.in bcapl if you WA t to vo you gotta pay approximately 1,000.00 on top ox your 300.00 yearly fee to go.

Airports....does bcapl happen to have their own airport close to you so bcapl members you don't have to drive 4-5 hours fo the public one apa uses ?

I just gotta say ya'll apa.bashers come up with some weird reasons to bate on apa when you are faced with the same crap in bcapl but yet it some how does not apply to them also.

I am not bashing anything sir. I played with one of the guys here yesterday that is leaving next week to go to Vegas. They have to drive to Baltimore Maryland with is 4 hrs from where we live. Its not by their choice. Their flights were book out of there. I think the team going out for the 8 ball has to drive there as well so I was told. I will not go into other details about things because the people that run the league I consider them my friends. I know what it cost me to go and play in the BCA if I wanted to go and we flew right out of Roanoke VA which is an hr from me. We also have an airport here. I don't play APA but hear a lot that goes on because most of my friends do. I've played the BCA and Valley for years and always went out of Roanoke with the exception of one year. That year they chartered a bus and took un to Greensboro NC. I based what I wrote on facts not here say. Call it bashing if you like but the truth is the truth. Maybe other places are different but I would not know about that.

We have 2 teams going from here. 1 in 9 ball, 1 in 8 ball. Both teams have to drive 4 hrs to 5 hrs to get to the airport for their first flight. They have to pay for all the gas and parking at the airport while gone and then drive 4 to 5 hrs to get home when they land. Its the worst league I have ever seen. The best thing to do is not join at all and just pay your BCA fee get on a team there and go. I played APA once years and saw right off what they were all about. Its a money racket for the league operator's. I told these guys here that when they got there they should all as a team go to the APA booth and tell them what they had to go through to get there and tell them this would be the last year they are playing. Whether they do it or not is up to them. We have an NAPA league here that is going pretty well. Maybe check into that and see if its offered around you. From what I have read about Vegas lately, Its not worth going anyway. JMO

They are driving to Baltimore Maryland. From here its at least 4 hrs if traffic is good. We have an airport here LOL

Lemme get this straight, you won'the go into detail because you consider the people that run The APA in your area friends, but you made that first post? ...
.... and you'really not trying to bash The APA...
Maybe it's just me, but something seems amiss, anyone else....?

Just out of curiosity, why did your friend purchase flights out of BWI instead of Roanoke?

Them being friends has nothing to do with the APA. I guess my friends that booked the flights were trying to save money. Yes my friends own APA here. I don't play because it's not for me. So you tell me if you won a trip to Vegas and had to drive 4 hrs to catch you flight to get there would you be a little upset? Or you you be so happy to go to Vegas that you would just drive 4 hrs to catch a flight pay then fly back and have to drive 4 hrs to get home. That doesn't count the two extra day that my other friend that is playing has to take off of work because of the crazy flight times. Are you getting the point now? It's a matter of money for some and time for others. And yes the apa operators here are my friends as well.

There is a difference in " having " to drive 4 hours and " electing " to drive in order to save money.

And you are blaming apa over airline schedules? What will you guys come up with next to hate on apa lol

Upset? Not really, if I didn't like the flight or the accommodations I'd change them, I've done it before. I don't mind the drive, I believe that every journey begins with a first step, the drive is just another step along the way. The important thing to me is that I deserve to be there, I earned my way there, if I want to complete the journey, I go. Personally, I'd probably have caught a flight from Roanoke. A couple of years ago I met a team that did a road trip from Maryland, if I was gonna whine about the drive to the airport I'd remind myself of that, but that's just me, I really don't mind the drive, I enjoy the adventure with my friends, but that's not for everyone.
It's good to know you're not trying to bash The APA, but are you saying your friends that run the APA over there are some cheap money grubbing bastards, or what? 'Cause to me it sounds a little like you're trying to do some bashing.

No not bashing them at all. Just stating a fact. These players here do not get to book their flights or rooms so I am told. I will tell the OP the same thing and if I loose their friendship then so be it. The truth doesn't hurt it will only open eyes to what people really feel. Again the APA might be different in other areas but here what I am talking about the players have no say in it. We have an airport here and another one an hr away. If it was me and I was booked like they are I would just stay home. I am closing this discussion for me. Everyone has their thoughts and feelings on the APA and I have shared mine. Thanks for you thoughts on it. Have a great week.

I wonder if your friends will read this thread, if they do and what you say is true I can't imagine any conversation will make any difference in what they do.
To some people it's probably not important to finish, after all, it's just a pool league, to me it is important. Whether it's a 4 hr drive or a flight, bus, or train ride I had to pay for myself I'd find a way to go.
What the LO contributes to the qualifying teams is at their discretion. I remember a thread from past years about this very topic, in some places the qualifying teams got $100 per player, in some places just a smile and a good luck, in some places not even that. I imagine your friends feel pretty good about themselves for just providing what they do. I wonder if the LO in question will make his way to Las Vegas and they will have the same 4 hour drive to get the airport.
It's too bad really, I hope the teams there make it to LV.

If never fails when an apa thread pops up that you have guys jumping in and saying apa sucks and you should join bcapl. I will agree its a pretty good league and it has a fantastic owner who does a lot for pool in general.

If its the best league going why do we have 2 threads and dozens of posts complaining about the bcapl nationals that was juat held ?

Now I I will admit apa.is not perfect and it seems neither is bcapl so people in glass houses should not throw stones.

No to get this thread back on track. I will apologize in advance I'd its been said before and if it has I did not see it.

Singles is probably easier than teams unless you have a dynamite team.

Our area has multiple tournaments for qualifying. Pay your 20.00 and win. Go to the regional qualifier and win and you are on your way to Vegas with approximately 1500.00 on your pocket for a 20.00 investment. Sounds simple but you gotta shoot your ass off. I lost out by missing the 8 ball and my opponent ran out in a hill-hill match in the finals.

Oh well...there is always next year I keep saying lol

There is quite a bit of information missing in this guy's original reply. First and foremost, the players didn't have to pay for the flights and didn't book them. Second, depending on when you book, it's approximately $100/person less expensive to fly from Baltimore to Vegas than from Roanoke. For two teams, that's $1600. Third, I don't know what airline was used, but Southwest has an APA discount for the trip to Vegas, and they don't fly out of Roanoke. The league operators were playing travel agent for their teams and had to make a trade-off. Maybe their travel assistance couldn't cover the extra expense of flying from Roanoke. Maybe they gave the teams a choice, pay the difference to fly from here or drive there and fly for free. Or maybe the teams were given the option of booking their own flights and being reimbursed X amount or having their flights booked for them. I'm not them so I don't know how it went down or what the actual options were for the teams. But I do know that there are reasons for choosing one originating city over another, and nobody would make their players drive five hours just because, so when someone posts it like that they are leaving out some information to make the league look bad.

I used to find teams that would let me sub my 4 matches (now it's 6 tho) so I could be qualified to play in the Singles qualifiers. I qualified for National singles in 2013. I haven't since though and have been every year trying to again. It's really difficult as well. In the qualifier I played this year, I lost to the eventual winner of the event 5-4 and lost to a guy I was up 3-2 and he BNR the last 3 to win. No complaints, that's the way it goes.

I've only played on a team for 1-2 years where I played all the time and actually tried to qualify and I'd venture to say teams is more difficult. Both are wicked hard but teams is more difficult IMO.

I did not mention that I qualified for 9 ball state regionals this year. I chose not to go when I was raised to a 6 just 2 weeks before the regionals.

Now dont take this the wrong way but I chose not to go because I knew being a new 6 that I did not have a chance in hell of winning against established 6's and did not want my handicap locked in as a 6 simply because I played in a higher level tournament as a 6. I am back down to a 5 now where I think I really belong. I have improvements to make in cue ball control and saftey play before I van be competitive as a 6

In the thread about being captain of a team some one alluded that I may have a slight ego problem. I think my choice not to play in a tournament for the reasons above validate my statement that I am a realist ....not a person with an ego problem.
