Thinking of joining the Gilbert fanclub ... how do you identify a Gilbert when buying it online? Is it signed or ???

If you have a Gilbert for sale, let me know right away as I'm negotiating for one right now!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah Jazz, all the Gilberts I have seen are signed on a point in the cue. Of course I have only seen like three or four.

It is not true that Gilbert signs all of his cues. Both of mine are signed but ARM's is not. Also, Rob Saez plays with a Gilbert that is not signed. I would say that the great majority are signed but not all. ARM can elaborate on this, he actually spoke w/ Andy about it.

Also, both of mine are signed with just the last two digits of the date i.e. Andy Gilbert '03 and Andy Gilbert '04.

This is true. I had gotten my cue from a user on ebay. I asked him about his signature not being on there. Right away he gave me Andy's number (He deals with Andy directly)and I confirmed it with him. He doesn't sign all of his cues. I don't know what the stipulations are for not signing them but there are some out there that are not signed by him. I don't know who the guy is answering the emails for his website, but he is wrong also. He swears that Andy signs all of his cues which I know this as being false. ARM

the second edition blue book (1999) says -
"gilbert cues were easily identifiable by a "g" in the butt cap until he recently started signing them on the forearm."

Gilbert cues

I had Andy convert a Hoppe cue for me and he said he does not sign cues that he does not make from scratch. So if you provide him with a Hoppe blank it will not be signed.

Andy is a good guy and will write a letter to verify his work if I asked.

ARM's has no "g" in the buttcap and no sig but it is verified as being a Gilbert. Also his is an '04. I'm not sure about Rob's, his is a bit older so it my have this "g" in the butt cap.

By the way... Make sure you post pics of your new Gilbert once you get it. And welcome to the club... LOL.

Talked to Vicky Gilbert. He is in Vegas and I won't be able to talk to him till Monday. As soon as I get a hold of him I will post.

I have an Andy Gilbert Titlist conversion.
It is not signed. The tapers Andy used were identical to another Gilbert owned by my friend Steve though.
It's in new condition and for sale.
I also ebayed my Schon today.

just kidding ... I know you're looking for one too ... may the best man win (or more like deeper pocket) :D

I might have a fancier 05 gilbert for sale. 5 point ebony w/ purple heart points, ivory snowflake diamonds in each point, with purple and white veneers (white is doubled) purple heart razor blade windows in the butt, with the same ivory snowflake diamonds in the windows, the windows are outlined w/ ivory. then there are ivory lines between the windows. lizard wrap, 2 shafts, one with ivory farrel, and ring work everywhere and on the shafts. 18.8 OZ.

I don't have pics, and cue has never been played with, but I would need about 1550 for it.

thanks

Given that the cue has an ivory joint, and ring, and is in mint or new condition. I wouldn't take less than $850 without testing the waters on ebay.

Weight is close to 19oz. I would be happy to measure the exact weight and balance point prior to selling the cue. I can't do that at the moment though.

I think that a good Titlist 1pc is $250-300 if you can get one.
The ivory joint, Hoppe ring, and ferrule alone ad at least $300 more from Gilbert.

I doubt you could lose money ay $850.
The cue is mint or new.

I think the cue is sweet but I have two nice Titlists that haven't been converted yet and one is an incredible purpleheart Hoppe. I am going to have a couple more built without wraps. This Gilbert cue is for sale though.

Thanks,
Eddie

Thought I would jump in here....

Andy signs all of his cues...usually "Gilbert + year"...between the points in the forearm. Sometimes if he uses dark woods like ebony or cocobolo as a forearm, he will sign it inside the point if it's a light colored wood like maple or over the veneers. Plain level 2 cues may even be signed in the butt sleeve just above the butt cap. It is true that he does not sign his Titlist blank conversions. His logic is that since he is using the blank he "did not make the entire cue" therefore won't sign it. I'm sure he would gladly provide a letter on one of these cues however. To my knowledge Andy has not engraved G on the butt cap in years.

hi all,

I'm quite interested in getting a plain jane from Andy as well and i've heard that his cues hit quite stiff. How stiff is stiff? Something like the hit of schon's?

Thanks!
