Or just recreational players in your pool hall. How would you get them to the next step? what is the next step?

What would you do or say to introduce pool to your friends?

What are the aspects of pool that you think are important to present to someone that doesn't now anything about pool?

How do you go from recreational to league or tournament player?

How can we, as pool players

I don't know the answer, but I like the question a lot. :)

IMHO the people who you want to convert from recreational to league or tournament players. I think MUST WANT to Play BETTER, you can not force thing on the younger generation.

Great question. I would just start them off with the basics, stroke, stance, aiming, bridge and see how they take to it. One of two things will probably happen. 1. They get pissed off and say" I don't care" and continue on hacking away at balls for the rest of their life or (and hopefully this is the case)2. They immediately show improvement and spiked interest. Pool is a bug and either you got it bad or not at all. If they show interest, perhaps invite them to play in an amateur league to show how fun and social pool can be. From that point it should pretty much take care of itself. They can go on to become a great tourney player or just be content to have fun sucking down some cold ones and racking a few times a week. Either way, you've made your introduction. Oh, and of course introduce them to azbilliards.com:) Just my .02

This ain't rocket science

I have introduced many ( assign any number of your choice) women to pool as a part of our "date". Upon looking back I can honestly say that most, if not all, had a great time and some even requested further instruction and advice. I can also say that I never ran into a complete rookie...ie...someone that never held a cue before. Most everyone has at some time or another picked up a wallabushka and banged a few. Most have also said to me that they enjoyed the experience, but wished they were better. This opens up all sorts of possibilities, league play, professional instruction, ( I payed for the first hour as part of a date once) or the self serving option ( well sweetheart, I'm available every friday night and enjoy showing you what little I know) sort of thing. I don't think men require as much finesse. You simply challange their egos. "Hey buddy, I'm gonna whup yer a$$ at 8 ball" is all the effort I've ever had to make to introduce a male friend to pool....LOL:grin-square:
