how to pair woods for the butt

im just wondering on how to effectively pair woods for the butt in terms of balance. is there such thing? let say if i want a forward balance cue, should i use a heavy wood for forearm and make it a little longer? and vice versa for a backward balance(please correct me for the term if wrong)? what about for a well balanced cue?
will the density of the wood be a factor?

please enlighten me.

Yes, the densities of the woods need to be considered when weighting and balancing the butt. The woods used is the chief concern. The hardware that goes into the cue is probably next. The joint pin (titanium, steel, g10 etc) and joint collar greatly affect the balance. The A-joint connecting screw (or lack of) has an affect. Weight bolts embedded in the handle or at the very rear of the cue. Even the butt/bumper configuration can have an affect.

Coring components is often used to control wieght and hence affects the balance.

Each cue maker's cue diameter and taper plays a huge part.

I wrote a cue modeling program that is used to calculate the weight and balance of a cue by inputting all of the construction specifications and the densities or weights of all of the components that go into the cue. You may be interested in looking at the thread where I marketed it.

If balance is the only consideration your thoughts are correct as one way of achieving the balance you want. Using internal screws in various places is another way. But remember different woods play differently, so feel and hit will be changed more by changing woods than by placing internal screws in the right places to achieve the balance you want. This is especially true when changing the forearm wood.

thanks for your input. for your point on coring, if i have a ph on the forearm that is extended upto handle (but smaller diameter to use as core), that would help, right?

i have heard about your point, is that base of stiffness, hardness or other wood properties? hopefully you could excuse my ignorance and further explain it, if you have the time.

sorry for the confusion, it's regarding his note that different woods play differently. im guessing because of their physical properties? have read about it but there's no explanation on how, which or what factors.
