How to polish the side of a cue tip

There has been some good advice here but I want to point something out that has not been mentioned. Shiny and burnished can be two different things. Burnishing a tip correctly can cause the side to shine. The 'shine' is not the point. The hardening of the leather is the desired result.

Anyone can make the side of the tip shiny by running a little CA glue over it then polishing it. This is a bad practice and not the point of burnishing. The CA glue will make the side too rigid, brittle, and can cause the tip to play differently than intended.

Hardened and flexible is what it needs to be.

cold hard cash! and you can't really screw anything up!

I haven't been following this thread lately but .....

I just put a new tip on my Mark Bear cue .... went to burnish the sides and realized that all the bills in my pocket were our new Mylar ones  I'll have to hang on to the next paper fiver I get

Tip

Spit works wonders on leather, I've used dog slobber/drool to burnish when running low on my spit..
