This is a team question. Right now we have our city vegas championships going on here on bar box tables. I want to know some good ways to pump up your teammates if they look down or unconfident. We whooped the first team we played and then two of my guys could not get it together for the next match and myself and another of my temmates could not shoulder the load even withour runouts. I want to give them advice in a construcive manner. I am not mad at them or anything as everyone had their day but these gays are great shots that are for smoe reason doubting themselves.

Thanks to all.

Check out "The Pleasures of Small Motions". It deals exclusively with the psychology of pool. Everyone on your team should read it, twice...it'll help tremendously.

They are thinking too much. Thinking they are not as good as they are; and thinking their opponent is better then he is. All the glitz, glamour, noise is busting up their concentration. Give them a shot of JD right before they play.

As the captain it is your responsibility to manage the "mental well-being" of each player on the team so that you can extract the best possible results as a whole. It is my opinion that that is tougher to do on a men's team because men generally don't expect to be managed whereas female counterparts are not as defensive about it - especially if you have played together for a long time and developed a chemistry. Some players respond better to a kick in the ass, whereas others need coddling and "pumping up". As the captain and team leader - you need to know the difference. I have found that no matter what works well mentally with my teammates individually, reminding them that they have invested a lot of time to be there and to get up to the table and give it there best shot is always a good one.

thanks fo rhte input guys. We played much better last night. Kicked some and coddled others. Oh the delicate act of balanceing emotions on a team.

And last night I mentioned to our 2's husband that his wife was a bit hyper after I asked her why she didn't use the bridge to shoot an easy shot. He told me that she may not have taken her anti-panic medication.

Oh well, she beat the 8 anyway.

Our 7 and other 2 are not sure if they still love each other.

Our 5 had three wisdom teeth pulled that day.

Our captain, a 4, owner of a bar, was constantly complaining that the tables we were playing on are not as good as the tables at his place and the pockets are huge. (5 inch) I guess that is why he scratched a record 8 times. But still managed to win the match somehow.

And our other 5 earlier in the day swerved to avoid a cat in the street and his power wash equipment broke his side window in his van. On top of that he has terminal cancer.

So sometimes it is not good to know too much about your teammates.
