A dry Magic Eraser should do the trick. If not, you can wet the Magic Eraser and it will definitely do the trick. Raising the grain on the shaft isn't too big of a deal. You just have to burnish the shaft afterwards with a piece of leather, brown paper bag, or crisp dollar bill. You just don't want to get the shaft excessively wet.
