How to replace a Stainless steel collar

How would you go about replacing one of these if the collar broke off the butt clean? dont they make them with the pins already in them and not just a collar and pin seperate? If they make them as one piece then i would understand it would be a simple replug, tap, and install right?

I am not expert...but the approach to the repair would depend on what you have left to work with. If just the collar came off...you may be able to just replace the pin and put on a new collar (threaded on I am assuming). You may not have to replace the pin..but I would...just to make sure everything is dead center at the joint. If the wood is sheared off and still in the joint collar...that is a different issue and would require more effort to fix, including boring , doweling a new piece on, then threading on a new collar and putting in new pin.

You can typically buy SS joint collars or even just the sleeves separate from pins.

Of course...the joint style and pin type may also lead to a different approach. Posting a few pics of the cue joint and pin may be handy.

Somewhere here in the forum, I do recall reading that McDermott used a one piece collar and pin for a while.

To the OP: Schmelke sells a sort of a all-in-one piece joint. It's about the only thing I can think of that's commercially available and close to what you described ...but it's obviously not stainless.

as for the rocket science guy, I dont have the original collar for the cue so i was asking here to get a collective answer. after the first person answered my question, it made since to me on why they would not make these as one piece. But i will say this, I dont care how much something cost to make if it works. Im not in this to save money lol.

I haven't ever seen a 1-piece pin/collar on a modern cue.

Bob Weir made some cues like this. He used phenolic instead of steel but it's the same idea.

BTW, what if I wanted to replace a heavy steel joint collar with something lighter? Is this even possible by a good cue man?
