How to roughen up new linen wrap on cue?

Just had an older McDermott cue re-wrapped w/ new linen and it's extremely slick. Is there any way to make it tacky like it would be after a few months of play? I have a few other cues I can put into rotation, but I've been wanting to use this one as it has some sentimental value and want to put it through its paces.

I work in some Renaissance wax then burnish the threads with the waist of a pilsner glass. The heat from the burnishing works the wax into the threads and gives it an excellent grip. (IMO)

Rub it down with a piece of waxed paper. It works pretty darn good and almost everyone has some in there kitchen drawer.

Is it real linen or poly, poly is slick and might stay slick unless others here have suggestions
