what workss best to shape/trim a phenolic tip....
I installed a 14mm tip on a 13mm shaft,
the tip i installed is a little rounded, BUT is too wide"
THANKS !
Duane

I use the lathe and lathe turning bit to trim it almost down to the ferrule. Then I use the utility knife with new blade and take it the rest of the way down. I shape it with a utility blade also.

Same as the others above concerning the sides, but I found that Chris's lathe tool for shaping tips works great for the hard leather, and phenolic tips. It also shapes a tip that may have been installed slightly off center, and will recenter, the center of the tip. It's worth the money!!!!

You can also use a dremel or similar tool with a sanding drum for the radius or front shape. with the motor tool in a block like a toolpost grinder, can also grind the diameter.
The fine wheels go from 60 grit to 220 from our local hardware store.

I do the radius on phenolic much the same way I do leather, except instead of using a razor blade like I do on the leather, I use a sharp handled wood lathe tool. The type of skew I use is double edged, although that probably doesn't make a difference, as I believe I have used a single edge before also. On the sides , I've had no issues in just trimming them using traditional tip methods.

A corse round file works well also for shaping phenolic.

I use a 1 inch wide angled wood skew with a slight wire edge and pivot it around to shape the tip. I've shaped normal tips this way for many years. It cuts like butter and takes no more than 5 seconds or so.
