How would you install a 9mm ferrule?

A guy I play league with hits with a 9mm tip and breaks with an 11mm tip.

Ernie Martinez makes his shafts for him. I asked him if he knew how Ernie attached those ferrules - he thought they were simply glued.

I don't think Ernie visits this forum, so I can't be sure if he threads the tenon or not.

If it were you, how would you do it?

Just interested,

Gary

Is this a replacement ferrule? If so, pull the old one and you'll see if it's threaded or not. My guess would be it's not, since there would be very little meat to the tenon if it was threaded. But, I've been wrong many times before, so take it for what it's worth.

This is not an active repair - it's more of a query as to how other's might deal with such a small diameter in case a repair comes up.

It's hard to imagine what thread I would use on that size tenon and still keep 1) any strength in the tenon and 2) any wall thickness on the ferrule.

on repairs I just match what was there so as not to mess with how the cue hits. I cant recall ever doing a 9mm ferrule though.

I do them all the time and the vast majority are just a .250 tenon with a phenolic press fit ferrule. They stand up great (for snooker) and hit nice.
