How would you play this shot?

This was one shot for all the marbles too, makes it pretty special. I wish we could wire the players for bio feedback without being intrusive. Was he calm? Was his heart beating like a triphammer while having to shoot before a shot clock went off? This ain't the shot I want to face to close out a match!

This is why I would slow roll the shot. The centrifugal force of center high English would help keep the cue ball rolling straight.

On a long slow shot like this the CB will be rolling soon after hitting it no matter how high or low you hit it - so what you're saying is any slow rolling ball won't roll off. But we know they can.

I should have explained this better by adding: A cue ball hit off center will roll off due to unwanted direction of centrifugal force. I am not considering imperfections in the table.

I recall some very major issues very recently with tournament tables, so you have to know something about the specific table you're playing on. In the past there were also issues with lopsided cue balls in tournaments. Recently in a pro snooker tournament -- maybe the World Championship? -- they were leveling the table between matches. Maybe the problems are infrequent but they do still happen and with the slow roll shot the player is giving up some control over what happens.
Tourney tables are tough action in terms of being level. Even if they are set up level, thing's can settle a hair over night. And this specific shot will be the shot that shows any troubles with a table.

The trade off is they play easier with fresh cloth, but might roll a bit funny. That’s why being ready & tourney tough is a real thing.

Playing on the same table too much can make you a bit “comfortable” or soft.

It’s never easy
