How would you run this out?

Well I know that people in here think differently than I do, and we all tend to set up for different things. What I am interested in learning is different ways of setting things up, and different ways to look at the table. So with that in mind I am going to start posting shots and situations that come up just to see how everyone else would play them out. This situation came up for me last night. I broke and nothing went in, but I got a great spread. The person I was playing shot the 5 and missed. This is what they left me. Now before I tell everyone what I did I would like to know everyone else's thoughts and ideas on how to play this rack. I know I didn't do it the easiest of ways, but I want to see what you all would have done! We are playing 8 ball people, not 9 ball! LOL Thanks in advance!

break out early

3-5 combo to make sure I get solids and hold the pocket with the 3. shoot the 2 ball rail first to break out my trouble balls early, the 1,3,or 4 make great relief shots. The rest should be automatic.:D

Play the 2 rail first with a good speed, moving the 6 and the 8. Both these moved balls should now have pockets.

No point to plan the rest, you've done the important part (and you've done it early).

Only other thing worth mentioning is immediately after you move the 6/8, you'd love to have a shot at the 3-5 combination. If not, fine, you'll probably play the 1 and have to work your way back down to the 3-5.

Trying to plan the entire runout from here is fruitless, because your very next shot (and thus the pattern) depends entirely on where you land after the breakout.

Tim, as long as it's possible to play the 3-5 first, holding both the cueball's position as well as the 3 in front of the pocket, I like your plan of playing this combo first.

If either of those things can't be done, I'd revert to initially playing the 2.

I like both options so far, I wish I would have thought about using the 2 first to break out the 6, but I didn't. So I will let you guess what I chose first! LOL

Play the combo on the 5 ball while playing for the correct angle to break out the 6 and 8. If you don't get the angle you're looking for, you still have the 3 to play for the angle on the breakout. Depending on spacing, you could just get an angle to play the six without breaking it out, but this will make position on the 8 ball tuff later in the game.

Which ball would you use to break out the 6/8? The 2-ball? If so, where would you want to be for the shot?

Yes, 2-ball for the break out. I'd want a little more angle on it than how it's sitting now myself. Looks like a pretty flat angle as it sits now. With more angle, just glancing the 6 would bring it off the rail and present another breakout for the 8 if need be. IMO of course :D

If the 6 and the 8 both go without having to be broken out I wouldn't go into them.

The 8 blocks the 13 in case something goes wrong and getting position on the 8 won't be that difficult with the 2, 1, 7 or 4 depending on how you choose to run the rack. I think I like the 7 as the key ball.

So, I would go 3-5 combo, 5, 1, 6, 2, 4, 7, 8

Once you shoot the 6 you are locked into running out, but it shouldn't be too hard even if you have to improvise later because of bad position (coming up short, long, etc.)

If you break out the 6-8 early in the rack you are committed to the run out, and if something happens and they don't break out right (ie, the 8 snuggles the 13) you might be in some trouble.

I try not to move balls that don't need to be moved and I always look for balls that are going to require something extra (the 13) and stay away from them all together.

Then again, maybe I am a coward who is afraid to shoot at his hole... LOL

LOL, well starting with the combination is tempting since it's obvious you want to be solids in this rack. However, there are just so many advantages to taking the 2 first. It opens everything up immediately.

Out of curiousity, was this a 9-foot table or a barbox?

This is what I try next to get the 6 ball to move out. There wan't enough room in my opinion to leave the 6 and 8 alone, but what do I know right?

CueTable Help

Don't ask me why I did this, but by this time I am frantick of where the 6 ball is and I am already preying!

CueTable Help

Now I am just hoping my luck doesn't run out, because I don't feel there is anyway I can pull this bank off without moving the 8, and sending the 6 off track!

CueTable Help

So I leave myself with almost the same shot on the 8, and I am still praying that my luck doesn't run out!

I have a great idea. You should just quit 8-ball altogether and play bank pool. I'm serious, we could make a lot of money.

Retarted

So that is my retarted run out, and I am not sure how I accomplished it. It was just a lot of luck, and me not missing the shots!

I wish I would have looked at shooting the 2 first now. That seems like a lot better option.

I guess I could have played safe somewhere in there too, but I didn't.

Anyway, I know my tables probably aren't drawn right, or don't show it right, but you guys get the idea!

I pulled a run-out out of my ass!!!!! LOL

Yea for me!

If I would have thought about it though I could have made it easier like some of you said by taking the 2 then the 6 would be opened up, and I don't think I would have had a problem getting the 8 because the 13 was far enough off of it!
