Might want to edit the title of this thread:

Hi,
Very nice write up on the history and pool playing of Maynard Parrish. Nickname Rip.

Link above.

Interesting. When Eddie Taylor came to Monmouth, he advertised himself as a ‘world 14.1 champion’ (Johnston City?). Quite a feather in Maynard’s cap if he beat him at straight pool. As I remember, the match was maybe on a weekday (or Sat.?) afternoon, and I had to go back to high school briefly for class after Eddie’s exhibition routine. A spectator/friend related the details of Maynard’s 3C victory when I returned, and likely he was merely behind at 14.1 when I left again. Whatever. Memory fades after 60+ yrs. I DO remember though, that Eddie played wearing a black suit & a tie (not exactly common garb for a small town poolroom).

I met Rip several times as a kid in Waynesboro, PA. He hung out some with Greg "Tuffy" Henderson who owned Greg's Tavern in Quincy. Was able to watch him shoot on numerous occasions. It's probably one of the reasons I have a love of the game. Brian.

Why would you put a URL as a title for a thread?
All the info is there, Monmouth, Greenleaf, and following in his footsteps. Works fine!
To the OP, thanks for posting the story, interesting read.
