Actually a huge day for all of Snooker. Yan’s win will make him a star in China and boost the game’s pofille.

He showed a lot of heart in this final. That steal in the 9th frame where he showed how straight he can shoot under pressure ... it was huge...made a crack ... and it helped to turn the tide of a fight. It was so impressive. Amazing shooter and one day he might become the first chinese player to win a world title.

I watched the entire match, both sessions. Higgins had moments of brilliance, but he never played the same level as he did against Ronnie O'Sullivan, a match that contained five centuries. I think Ronnie brings out the best in everybody.

In the post-match interview. Higgins paid huge accolades to 20-year-old Yan and said he was the same age as his own boy. You could see the genuine admiration and appreciation between the two. I loved it when both players at different points in the match took their cue sticks and did a tap-tap-tap on the snooker table when their opponent made a good shot.

Here's a few screenshot photos I took from Matchroom.live. The quality of the video, the commentary, Matchroom's coverage for $1.99 for 30 days is the best in the world, bar none.

My favorite screenshot is this one. As soon as Yan sunk the winning ball for the frame, as is customary in snooker, he kept shooting until he missed. But right at the moment this winning ball dropped, he could not hold back the smile. It brought tears to my eyes, happy tears. Imagine being 20 years old and winning the Masters Snooker title, the Paul Hunter Trophy, and $338,523 (250,000 pounds).

You could see how much it meant to Yan to win as he was speechless and suddenly lost the ability to put two words together in English (his English is actually not terrible and he can answer interview questions without a translator).

Ding, at the grand old age of 33, is now all of a sudden the grandaddy of snooker in China.

True. Ding: ‘the veteran’.

Yan’s win will likely help Ding recover from his slide.

Every time Ding plays he has all of China’s expectation on him. Yan’s win will help him share that pressure. A few more Chinese players are swirling around the 17 to 32 ranking position and a third Chinese will likely be in the top 16 this time next season.

Anyways, organizers are thrilled. It’s also nice to see the positive response of British Snooker fans.

great win for certain, esp as he was missing easy shots all week. i saw a few that were really surprising- glad he held up and came through- sorry to mister higgins

scored a good bet on yan, figured higgins to be exhausted after his matches. i usually never bet on chinese players in big tournaments, but this guy is different, more confident and better nerves than most top players

I don’t bet but completely misread this tournament. I had Selby vs Robertson in the final...then when the actual final arrived: Higgins 10-6.

Gilbert did well but unfortunately a non-ranking event and he’s going to slide down to about 30th ranking unless he does something before the end of the season.
