humidity & pool table

I just got a dehumidifier in my basement to protect the investment in my table. After 2 days the bucket in the dehumidifier was full of water & a light signaled me to empty it. Today, I bought a thermometer with a humidity gauge, which gave me a reading in the "normal" range at 57%. What is a desirable humidity level for the table?

Incidentally, I have noticed that my own perspiration level has been dramatically reduced while on the treadmill.

Between 40% and 60% RH should be OK. But you will notice that the table plays faster as the RH goes down. Below 20% RH would probably dry out the wood. I would recommend that you plumb the tank so that it empties into a floor drain. I've the same situation in my basement and have my dehumidifier on a shelf 4 feet off the ground. When I built the room I put in a copper pipe that runs behind the wall to the wash tubs on the other side of the basement. Remember to clean the coils occasionally to prevent icing. Use a rag dampened with water and white vinegar

Thank you so much. The machine came with a hose, which I have going into a floor drain. There was nothing in the instructions about raising the dehumidifier off the floor. Why do you have it on a shelf?
