The point is, that I had enough RESPECT for a world champion player, that I just wanted to play with him. I did not then, nor would I now, ask for weight...against ANYBODY...even Efren. I'd consider it an honor just to play them, and if I couldn't afford to lose whatever we were playing for, I wouldn't have asked to play in the first place. That's just the difference between you and me! I've played many former and current champion players, and NEVER asked for a spot. If I got one in a handicapped tournament, that's the decision of the TD, not mine.

It would be nuts, I hung in a room with nothing but world beaters and I played them all with weight. It is better for them and better for me. I guess if I used your logic I should never play or donate a couple of thousand a week because I am in such aw of them. You think they want to play for $5.00 a game just to entertain you? Try making real games and playing.

Excuse me? It was $10 a game...and that was 30 yrs ago...probably comparable to at least $50/game today; which is pretty sporty (plus I posted 10 games). IMO, playing a multiple time world champion heads up, IS making a REAL game! To each their own, huh?

Well that's what he's saying. If he played Efren even at $50 a game, he's going to run out of money to donate to Efren's cause REAL quick (unless he bought a lot of Microsoft stock in the 80's), because without a spot he's never going to win. So either he learns to enjoy going immediately broke, or he gets a spot and wins enough games that he can at least afford to play for a while. He's saying the only way he could afford to play Efren even is if Efren would play him for $5 a game, and he doesn't find it very likely that even the generous Mr. Reyes would be willing to do that for very long.

I've know Scott Lee for some years now, and he is a very good player even by today's standards. Years ago he was even better.

Playing world champs and other great players without 'spots' was the way to tell how good you were 'way back when'.

If you want to gamble ask for a spot to make the game even or at least so you have a chance

If you want to 'test' your playing ability and skill level, play even and when you win, you know your game has progressed.

Winning with a spot just means you are probably going to have to re-negociate the next time.
