Let's say you have a friend who bought a cue from a well known cue maker, who claims he has not built a cue for several years, say 3 or 4. When the cue arrives, the cue still smells strongly like the glue used to install the wrap. When questioned, the maker says that the cue has been in storage since it was built and that is why the glue still smells.

My question is would you still smell the glue after several years?

what kind of glue, used to install a wrap, has an odor, even after a day?

Are you sure it's a glue odor?

maybe mothballs? :smile:
 
I can still smell the contact cement if I put a cue in my case that I just built and take it out a few days later.

That's why I'm wondering how long the cue will smell new.
 
I have a cue that has this problem. Cue was sent back to the maker, whom replaced the wrap, and it still smells if it's stored in a case. It stays in the wall rack at home, but if I put it in a case the smell comes back within a day or two.
 
Laying anything over still wet contact cement and then sealing it in something air tight would mean the glue could still be wet. Contact cement is supposed to be put on two surfaces and allowed to dry before sticking them together. I bet he put it on wet and wrapped over it and so it is still not cured.
 
Thanks. I wasn't sure. This wasn't really a cue issue, but I had an argument with a friend who thought he got ripped off on a purchase. I told him I thought you might be able to smell the glue even after several years if it was in storage. He disagreed.
