I’m looking at purchasing a GClll and have some questions

1) Are all GC3’s equipped with the same pocket dimensions or should I be asking the seller specific questions concerning the rail types and extensions?
2) Do rails deteriorate over time and should I be concerned about replacing rails during setup?

Thanks

1) Are all GC3’s equipped with the same pocket dimensions or should I be asking the seller specific questions concerning the rail types and extensions? All were in the ballpark form the factory but you are dealing with a 30 year old table so who knows what has been done to it over the years. If the table has been untouched, it most likely has SuperSpeed rubber with 5" corner pockets.

2) Do rails deteriorate over time and should I be concerned about replacing rails during setup? This all depends on where the table has lived. If you plan on keeping the table, I would replace the rubber and tighten the pockets. The good news is it is a III so the subrails will accept the modern K55 cushion profile without adjusting the bevel on the subrails. If you do decide to tighten the pockets, be sure you use a reputable mechanic that will properly extend the wood of the subrail and recut the pocket openings. Do not stack facings. That will make the pockets play dead.
