After trying many different models of break cues on the low end side ( I like playing with cheap models this way I'm not in any way spending hundreds) . I've been breaking good with all of them until I decided to upgrade mcdermott's standard break shaft with a phenolic tip / ferrule combo with the i1 shaft blank. All was needed was a 3/8-10 tapped joint and trim down the joint size to match the butterfly joint. Once this was accomplished ( which by the way saved me $100 from the retail price of the $220) I set up a 9 ball rack. Broke and the 9 went in. Racked 8 more and made three 9 the last 2 set consecutively. After that my breaks have been more explosive than before. I'm proud to say this is truly a good shaft and definitely recommend it with their hard layered tip (unknown brand) and tenon ferrule technology I seem to not feel the Contact of the tip to cue ball at all and still crush the racks and avoid miscues and the ping sound from a solid ferrule tip combination .
This is the Interesting part. I play with a joss with a 1st Gen 314 shaft. Well I decided to even shoot a game of 9 ball with this mcdermott. Boy my game has really lit up. Better control feel and definitely more spin. I think I may have to retire this joss.
