I have never been one to brag or boast, but i can't hold it in.
To some of you this may sound like nothing special but to me it was a big step.
I took second at College Street 9 Ball open. It is a local tourney in Iowa. There were about 20 players, and they are the same 20 all the time. I ussally get knocked out after the first four rounds. But After a couple of months of intese (and I mean intense training- 30 hours a week) I made up my mind I was going to win. i made it the the finals undefeated. And I cruised. 5-0, 5-2, 5-2, 5-3. 5-3. I was up 4-2 in the finals (with the guy I beat 5-0 before). He sloped the nine, then did a stupid 1-9 combo. Hill-hill, he plays safe, and i should have just picked up the cue ball and handed it to him cause the nine and two were close together (not makable) but i tried anyway fouled and knocked the nine into position for a combo-match over. oh well. Next time. It feels good though to make it to the final table finally.
Please post your first time stories as well.
Thanks,
Jordan

you go, prewar!

good job! and that win will make you walk a few inches taller for awhile- soak it all in.

make it push you harder, too- don't let it go to your head and then you end up relaxing. you're on a roll, and the practice is paying off... you didn't let anyone else get on the hill that whole tourney. do it again.

Good job, the practice is paying off. Guess you love pool and the competition is ok too. Set your goals to improve, work hard, and remember to enjoy yourself it will make you play better. Sam

I recently achieved one of my goals. I won the Indiana BCA open 9-ball and Masters 8-ball titles. My first state singles titles. I have played on 5 teams that won VNEA state titles.

This is the place to brag! :) We can all relate to your story. Either we've been there, or we're working on getting there.

I don't remember the first time I monied, but I do remember my first ERO in an 8-ball tournament. I was so proud, I put a little notch in my cue. When I got another, I made another notch. I'd only add notches for EROs made during a tournament or competitive league play. Eventually I realized that if I was going to stick with this game, I have to stop cutting up my cue!

I still have that old brunswick cue, notches and all.

cheers,

congrats to you Jordan. . enjoy the feeling. I've had to climb the same hill in our local Tuesday tournament here. I think I played consistently for 5 or 6 years before I ever made it past the first round!! But, it's all been worth it, I've actually gotten 2nd to Mike Davis before (who can complain about that??) Just keep chipping away at the block!!

Good thing you didn't have too many EROs or else you would have notched right through that old red cue. LOL!!!

Way to go Jordan. Keep practicing and you will be winning that tournament all the time. Don't sweat the small stuff that happened in the match. Good luck and bad luck happen to us all.

Take care,
Sarah
