and would like to have the same in regular length. Should I sell the existing ones and new ones made? Can the current ones be cut down? Any advice appreciated.

If those shafts are original, I would keep them and get new ones. Cue with original shafts has more collectability, even if you never sell it, nice to have the original package.
If these shafts are perfectly straight I would cut them down. Better shaft wood back then and if they are still straight they will always be straight.. They still would be original shafts and nobody would know they were longer to begin with. If you decide to get them cut down HAVE A PROFESSIONAL CUE MAKER DO IT! Some hacker could ruin them.
Buy a new shaft. I almost had my original shaft on my cue altered and at the last minute i decided to get another one. Very glad i did even if i dont use the original. Was a relief to the guy doing the job too, he said its a better call
