last night was a historic night ladies and gents. For the first time ever i actually got the cue ball to jump, rather than pathetically slide off along the table! I've never been able to jump, it always seems like i'm doing it right but it never works.

last night playing there was a shot and the right thing to do was jump. so i thought stuff it, i went and grabbed a house cue, and just played it. and bang! and i nearly made the shot as well!

the problem for me has been the execution. i know where and how to hit the cue ball, but i obviously dont execute it well enough. I didn't try another jump all night, I want to live of that one for a while yet untill i start practising them!

Anyone else have trouble learning how to jump?

IMO, when jumping with a full cue, some people will have a physical advantage, and some people will have to work at it. Some shorter players will have to jump side arm to get the same results as a someone taller with larger hands. So, it's not equal footing across the board.

If you (anyone) have an opportunity, take a jump clinic. U.S. instructor Tom Simpson for one gives an excellent one.

I'm a nobody, but I think I give a pretty decent jump clinic with a jump cue.
