I just got SPANKED!

I was at Clicks in Austin tonight spreading the love for Texas One Shot and my buddy went off to show some guys the game so I move across the room with my coffee. I was sitting enjoying my coffee and this little lady invites me to come to a league meeting. I told her I was joining one at Slick Willie's on Burnet Rd. Anyway she agreed to play me a game of 9-ball. So she breaks I get one shot and she runs out all the ballls. She says her name is Angie and then says we can take turns breaking. I'm like no, I'll rack. But she just keeps putting the rack together and says break. So I break and get ball. Shot again and barely miss. So she shoots and sticks me behind some balls not even trying to make a shot. I respect some defense but I rarely see it played. Of course I miss but do hit the object ball. She hides the object ball again. I miss the bank into the object ball so ball in hand. By now I know I am in trouble. So, again, she runs the table. But not just runs it, every shot is soft. Every leave is perfect. Game over quick. I told here see why you offered to split breaks, you knew this was going to happen. It was a pleasure to watch her run two more racks on me so precise I know I have to go home and learn how to play. I'm sure the World knows her but I am just a barrom hack. I will never forgot the experience. I loved it!

That's a great story, thanks for sharing it

I'm sure a lot of people out there know exactly who she is. I'm waiting for someone to tell me her last name so I can look her up. We did not play Texas One Shot but I am sure she would make it into the speed pool game people are looking for. She watches the whole room too. When I came and sat near her she asked what happened to my friend. Smart girl. Down at Betsy's they play break your own. I think that is a good idea, no room for complaints. But I have heard about rack mechanics. They scare me because I have been playing my phat rack. Also been playing my game-challenger breaks, rack your own. That way the winner can be over celebrating with his friends while someone else does all the dirty work. It also means you don't have to watch someone run 12 racks before you get to shoot again. For the pro's I guess it would mean to much getting up and down.

If we had been playing challenger racks(I don't say loser because you can not lose in 9-ball, someone has to win) Angie would of had no reason to offer alternating racks unless she just wanted to break a few times.

If you rarely see defense played, you need not worry about rack mechanics.

Paglia by any chance?

is this her?

She is an Angel and I don't think she plays pool anymore.
What a waste. Must have good life; can't fault that.

What a doll huh? That's Paglia but who was the OP playing?

No, just looked up Angie Paglia out of Dallas. That is not her. This woman was very petite in stature. I would say barely 5 foot. She wore a leather jacket that was grayish with a LOGO one one sleeve. She looked like she was pushing 50. She had short hair, not black, maybe dirty blonde. I not very observant. I would make a terrible cop. She was soft spoken and scoffed when I said I could tell she had been around a table for a while. Then I played her and found out she was likely born on a pool table. It looked so easy for her. Every ball went exactly where she told it to and every leave was straight on. There was no hope to her game, she just knew where the balls were going to be when they stopped rolling. Amazing.

Like I said, I've always just been a barroom hack. Just good enough to win a few local tournaments. But now I've thrown out a new game and been thrown into a world full of people a whole lot better than me. The twisted diamond I'm using for Texas One Shot lines three balls in a row for a straight on break and with the quality of players around here I am concerned the rack will be hacked in less than a year. Of course it sure looks pretty right now and turns heads in a pool hall. My game can always go back to the Standard Diamond it started with but it may never be a pro level game anyway because while it is challenging and fun for a barfly it is likely a two or three shot game for the big boys and that's only if they don't hack the rack.

If I had a post for every time I lost a few games I would be doing nothing else as a career :)
I've been whooped a few times over the years but by players who were just a little out of my reach. I have never been schooled by someone of this caliber which is why I wrote about it. I'm hoping y'all will tell me who she is so I can look her up before I see her next. Angie has had to played the big leagues to be as good as she is. If y'all can't tell me who she is when I see her next I will learn her last name and report back.

With only a first name, no photo, no way to know who it is if it's not Paglia. Who is a pretty decent player, one of the better women players in the country going by her Fargo rating of 628. She would have to spot me a game to 4 but would be playing even with my son. 628 is pretty much in the A level of players, on the higher side of A-

Maybe the voice sounds familiar? Here's an old video interview with Angel Paglia. My guess is that she would be in her 40's now..
