I just learned another system!

I think gulfportdoc had it basically right at the beginning - 'long' and 'short' have too many definitions - are you talking about a long table, a long shot, aiming too long, coming short of the corner on a long shot? Too many ways to say the same thing. Maybe a 'long' or 'short' table indicates only slide on the rails that the player has no control over, and on a particular shot it's better to say 'narrow' or 'wide' instead? Like long and short depend on the rails and cloth rather than the shooter and wide and narrow depend on what the person making the shot intended?
It's the most interesting thing that's been on this board in awhile, but we've probably frightened away fifty newbies that were kind of skeptical of every understanding the game to begin with.

Now it's fifty one ! I just carry around a Spanish-English dictionary, now I'm gonna need a Billiard-English dictionary too!. Back to the bar box for me.

Ah, you must be lurking here for a reason. Pool, especially bar box pool, is the the safe, chubby, dependable wife. Three cushion is the exotic mistress with the european accent that you don't exactly understand, and probably never will, but you can't help but be interested in. You can't do right with her, but she's endlessly fascinating.

Yup

Yeah your right eze. I'll tell you honestly I can watch 3cush anytime and enjoy it. On DVD, live or even old grainy tapes, I just love to watch it. Pool on the other hand, I love to play and yet I can't stand it on tv. When ESPN has that pool trick shot tournament, OMG, I can't change the channel fast enough. I've seen some artistic billiards competions on DVD over the years and that stuff I can watch all day long, I think it's great, go figure. As far as my chubby wife bar box goes, it's your exotic mistress who needs the bigger bed with 2" slate:D
