Guys I may have missed something so pardon my ignorance but we should really be welcoming the Dragon posts for the 14.1 World Event. This is the largest straight pool event in the world and we are seriously going to tell them don't post press releases for the event which give us the players in our home turf (AZ 14.1 forum) all the information we need to be a part of this incredible event whether it be spectator or player alike.

I understand Mike's stance in terms of using the forum as a grand stand etc but in all honesty you have maybe four major 14.1 events through out the year this of course being the largest and most prestigious. 2nd of course Maryland, 3rd is Derby and 4th is Valley Forge from what I can tell.

Perhaps Im wrong but I would welcome the information and the posts to further promote the event which in turn further promotes the sport of 14.1 pool.

I agree with Charlie here.

We 14.1 fans look forward to these rare events and we want information on who will be playing, when the games will take place, whether there will be a live feed, dvds, etc. We have always been able to get this information from this sub forum in the past. This year a lot of the information has been deleted
supposedly because the information is in the nature of a press release.

I must be missing something, too. I see threads in other sections about different events, who is streaming them, who is commentating, who is winning, who is losing.

What are the rules here? Can we post about when an event is coming up? Can we post about the times the event is taking place? Can we post about whether or not there will be a live stream? Can we post about the expected quality level of the commentating or live stream? Can we talk about who the players will be? Can we speculate on who will have the high run?

I understand the desire for information to be available, but Mike is right -- press releases are not appropriate for the forums. And it would seem that DP Inc has been warned about this and has continued to violate the rules.

The problem with a press release is that, in addition to event details, it is typically filled with a lot of self-serving crap. (I know, I've written more than my share over the years.) And there are many folks out there that don't know how to write a proper press release, and/or send out an abusive number of them. Then there is the issue of the drive by press release, where it's dumped on the site and the perps don't have the courtesy to stick around and answer questions -- forget about actually having been around through thick and thin and being contributing members of the forum.

I can guarantee you that if Mike were to allow open season on press releases on the forums you would not like it because every Tom, Dick, and Harry would be "press releasing" a lot of ca-ca. (Can you spell: spam?)

Somehow, all the major events in pool manage to get the word out without posting press releases here. I'm sure DP will figure it out.

While some of the press releases may be self-serving, I do find them invaluable in letting me know about upcoming tournaments and other important things that may be going on. I think the positives far outweigh any negatives.
