I need some ping...

A friend of mine is also ping-crazy and the only cue that could scratch that itch is his current player, a Sugartree.

In my experience, cues are like instruments and woods can be mutable. I have hit with cues from the same maker that had a familiar character, but were of a different spectrum of "tone". Even two production cues of the same model will not have the exact same hit.

To be brutally honest, whenever you come across that one cue that has that undeniable hit that appeals to you, go to whatever lengths you can to make it yours. Such opportunities can be many years (or even once in a lifetime) in the making.

This Stonier cue has an excellent "Ping-like" hit to it that you might love. It has more feedback than some Tasc's I've tried. Kind of reminds me of a Sugartree, but different. No idea what ferrule material it has, but it looks like a creamy/ivory colored version of the old Westinghouse Micarta (similar grain structure).

If you can find the westinghouse material, buy that stuff.

Try taking the bumper out of your cue, gives more feedback. My personal player is a Brazilian Rosewood Titlist that is bumperless. Full ivory joint, piloted 5/16-14 with an ivory ferrule and supersoft tip and has that ping you are looking for.

Paul Dayton is currently building me a Brazilian Rosewood. Other than length, weight, and shaft diameters, I left everything to his discretion. no idea what he will do for ferrules, bumper, even rings, etc. I trust him, and can't wait to see what he comes up with

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, and for sharing your cues!

Hopefully I won't be posting about wanting a more muted cue with less feel in a couple of months!! lol
