I need to make a decision soon (cloth question)

I hate to open THIS door again, but I really am discouraged by the speed difference of my table vs the hall where I shoot league. I had Simonis 860 put on my table after I realised the slow nap cloth I origanally had was the wrong choice. I then used a gift certicate my wife got me for my B-day towards new cloth. So naturally I went with Simonis, because not being to educated on the differences of worsted (some call high speed) clothes, I thought they were all the same. And all I here about is Simonis this and Simonis that. Then to top it off, I think I put a little premature wear on the cloth by using a non horse hair brush that was too course. This combined with the humidity I used to have an issue with before I installed AC. The fibers on my cloth seem to be somewhat boken in a spercatic patern. I wish the pictures in my above link to my origanal post were more pronounced.

So the cloth that the hall where I play (Romines) is Granito tournament 2000. I was told that this is slower the Simonis 760; is this true? I am not sure I want to go as fast as Romines. But I also can't find the color I want in Granito....2000 cloth. My rec room was specically painted to match my tables choosen cloth; Camel. Simonis does have that color as an option in the 760.

So what to do, unless another brand is recomended. I forgot one thing, I have a standard 8' foot Olhausen, and Romines has Gold Crowns Pro 8'.

Help me please!

you could go with Velocity pro , most are saying it plays right betwen the 760 and 860 , also the reviews so far say it appears it will outlast the simonis ., also the cost is way less at about $130 , but I don't know about colors available.

Not having played on your table, it is a little hard to say anything specific about your cloth. That said, maybe you are letting this bother you a little too much.

You are not going to duplicate the conditions you have at you pool hall at home. You could buy the same table and get the same cloth and it will still be different. You already mentioned humidity, which is one big difference. Even if you now have a nice dry room, the humidity level will be different than at the pool hall. The biggest difference will be the wear in the cloth. The cloth at your pool hall will have much more wear than your cloth ever will. Cloth plays very differently as it ages.

Another difference is the pool balls. How are yours compared to the pool halls? I know the pool balls at my house are in much better shape and cleaner than those in the pool hall. Again, this makes a noticeable difference in play.

My point is, conditions are always going to vary, from home to pool hall and pool hall to pool hall. Hell, different tables in the same pool hall often play a little differently. This is simply part of the game. As you play more you learn to adapt very quickly to differing conditions with out ever thinking about it.

You may be right, there may be a serious problem with your cloth. There is no way for anybody here to say for sure with out actually seeing it. But I suspect, at least a little, you are letting this get under your skin a too much.

Anyhow, good luck finding a solution. I know what it is like to expect to have the perfect conditions at home only to be disappointed.

Oh, for what it is worth, I had 860 on my table and loved it. When I recoverd my table about 6 months ago I decided to save some money and got Gorina Granito Basalt. At first, the Granito played much faster, but as it got worn it slowed down and seems about the same. I like the granito as much as the simonis.

"I need to make a dision soon (cloth question)" You need to learn to spell "decision". But to answer question Championship Tour Edition is my favorite tournamrnt quality cloth. I've installed and played on almost all the others and for real value (cost / durability) it's hard to beat.

Well, thanks for pointing out my TYPO, I'll try to be more careful next time. Anyway thanks for the advise. What is your opinion on the speed differences with the Championship cloth compared to 760/Granito.....2000? I already assume it is faster then 860.

By the way did you see your typo?

Thanks, I'll look into that cloth. I found it for about the same price as Granito, and they do have Camel. However I since I have never heard of it I would like to do a little bit of research on it. I have a tendency to make decisions to fast without looking fully into it first.

Thanks again

I personally feel that Simonis is the best cloth on the market. I sell it to my bars, halls, and homes with confidence. I would stick with it, but switch to 860. 860 is for 8-ball and 9-ball, I only use 760 on carom and snookers tables. Like a previous post, I think your letting this bother you too much, you might in fact have players that prefer yours. Also cushion speed can be confused with cloth speed pretty easily, maybe this other guy has better cushions.

That my opinion, whatever it worth...

Thanks, but I already do have 860, and am disappointed in the major difference in speed from our where I shoot league and my table. If you have achance breeze through the my linked post that I have in my question. You'll see then why I would like to change.

I have played on T2000 and on 760. IMO, T 2000 is faster than 760 under equal conditions.

YMMV depending on a whole host of factors.

Some of the factors affecting speed of cloth are humidity, cleanliness of cloth, (new / old) clean and polished balls, or dirty dull balls.

Hope this helps.

I looked at those pics you posted in the other thread and it does Not look like Simonis unless the brush screwed up the cloth that bad to make it look like orange-peel. There are knock-off simonis products being sold so that may also be a possibility. Only one way to tell for sure and that is to shine a black light on the cloth and look for the simonis mark and bolt number.
Since you mentioned you wanted a little faster then 860 in another post you might try the Velocity Pro which for an 8' table will cost you roughly $80 less than simonis.

Now that's the best advise I heard all day. I will be sure to shine the light to see these marks you speak of. I hardly think that the place I purchased it would scew me over but you never know.
