The guy who ask who is looking for someome to play, laught and said that is not enought to bother with.

I ask what is MINIMUM is and he say maybe $20.00 for a Race to 5, or 7. Appear some people just can't play Pool for FUN. Its just got to be for MONEY....:D

Play is something we do that we enjoy for the fun and pleasure of it. That is why I play pool and I really ain't to shabby at it. My win/loss persentage is about 90/10. Some people have the idea that you need to gamble to be a decent player. Well, it ain't so. I, like you , will play $1 a game for fun. It is kind of like someone who loves to cook and goes out and finds a job in a restaurant. All of a sudden it is a job and all the fun and pleasure are gone. No one will make me feel bad about not gambling. If you needed some money because you are in a bind, I would be the first person to lend/give it to you, so it isn't about the money. It is about my play time.
Now if someone wants to make it their JOB, that's fine with me. I am a live and let live kind of guy. They can win/lose all they want to. You will find a whole lot more people who like to play that are financially secure than those who like to gamble. JMHO

i have a friend or two who i will play super cheap sets..........we are friends, we arent looking to take each others money......so 5$ a game of one pocket........or race to 5 for 5 or 10 in 9ball......basically enough for the winner to cover his table time. But thats as cheap as i can go lol. Occasionally ill have a banger who wants to play me for free, or theyll offer to pay my time.....if i like them ill do it but i dont like to, id really rather practice than do that. Playing bangers just seems to be bad for my game, im not concentrating as much, its hard for me to take too seriously, it just seems to take the edge off my game.

Who are these people and where can I find them?!?! HEHE J/K ;)

You are right though. When I moved to Vancouver from Seattle there were a number of younger players, like myself, at the pool bar who definitely had talent. Over the past 3 years we have played leagues (fun, money,BCA,APA,ACS) together, local tourneys, and have brought our games up. We have went to the regional BCA tourneys the past few years and most of us end up high in the money and all of us are now in the Masters division (the next 9ball tourney will be my first one). So we can all play a little bit and we are starting to gamble for fun with each other a little more, short races for $5,$10, or $20 to pass the evening and play a little more serious. There is an good older shortstop who plays very well who also plays on our league teams from time to time. He occasionally plays these cheap games with us, but usually it ends up a split of sets. Then he gets mad and says well lets play for $100/set and when he doesn't get action he can go away strutting that they are all scared. Most of them don't make a ton of money anyways and to risk $100/set would be alot.

The guy that I really like though is this one. The guy who is a good hotshot younger player who has a "millionairre" backer and when he gets to losing he pulls out the ol' "lets play for $1,000, or $10,000." line. Then when he doesn't get action he can feel better. The barking would stop if someone stepped up, threw the money on the table but said he had to use his own money. If I was being backed too for that amount without having to pay the backer back on a loss but giving up 50% if I win I would do it all day too.

A Quarter is what we play for at the local hangout, it ain't about the money it's about the bragging rights. When I get home I usually have a pocket full of quarters and had a great time earning each one of them.

One of the guys I play with loves to gamble and gets action every now and again, his game goes to another level when there is a $50 or $100 bill at the end of a game. Watching him with a cigar hanging out of his mouth fleecing people is most enjoyable.

I agree with your sentiments, wholeheartedly. The key to this is whether whomever you play will give you their "best" game. Actually, the idea of the "best" game is somewhat difficult to define, but, for argument's sake, let's say they'll play you a really tough game. If that's what they're doing, their speed is somewhat irrelevant. If they really are doing their best, and not just slamming balls around, it's worth the game, normally at least. Even when the game is obviously not up to par, if they are really playing their best, and it's very simple to figure out if they are, it's worth playing them, most of the time.

I don't care how good a player is, I'm going to learn from the match. Either from good shots or from bad ones.

If they're just slamming balls around, not interested. But even if their game is really poor, if they're trying, and laying some safes and so on, let's go at it!

By the way, among "players" I'm mediocre at best, but I'll do my best to win, and make the game tough for them. That is something that's usually within my abilities. And who knows, if I win, it's good for me and for them too. For them, because next time they'll probably realize they have to bear down.

Last week a friend told me "I can see we're not playing friendly sets anymore.." Music to my ears!
