i think that to advance today, 4 wins required

because only the top 2 advanve, i think in order to move on, u will need 4 wins. especially because some players have winning pcts in the 60's. also, after the 2nd match, if u are winless, i think ur pretty much done today. anyone else agree?

I think you may get 1 person in each group with 4 wins but I wouldn't be suprised if they cut each others throats and some make it due to % tied on 3 wins.

Efren just kept his hopes alive!

can only imagine what kind of savers are being made right now.

You just wait until the final match of this round Randy, I sure wouldn't want to be relying on a guy who's already out or already through to the final to beat a guy who I need to lose. With 450k on the line in the fnal it sure could buy a friend! (players btw)

With the kind of money the losers are getting I don't think there is any need of a saver.

I have the feeling that the Philipinnos go home and then split up the winnings. That they work as a team. I know absolutely nothing about them, it is just a "feeling" that I have. And most likely I am completely wrong. But, the area that they are from averages $800 income per person per year.

Do you think there was a saver in the Reyes - Sigel match?

Who knows but its certainly not the same situation as this group money wise.

Very interesting the way they have done the draw though, in the last 2 rounds, no filipino plays each other and also neither German so they where obviously thinking about it! Wonder if they read my post a few months back about prime for sharp end dumping? ;)

I think there will be a saver in the final, either a complete split if the 2 players are friends.
Or perhaps $250,000 1st, $199,000 2nd.

Of course Sigel and Reyes didn't have a deal, Reyes was a huge favorite in that match.

I doubt it. Don't forget, this income is reported and will be taxed. I would expect taxes will be withheld, so the winner will see no where near 350k. Savers only really work for untaxed funds, otherwise you are paying taxes on money you give away. Taxes are going to take a large chunk out of the winnings.

i was referring more to savers than whacking up the final payout. Like for instance, the chamat - hohmann match. in past events, guys on the bubble would make say a 10% deal going to the player who does not advance, coming from the winners final payout. Granted, that could be 35k if the guy eventually wins, but i would be surprised if many savers were created. (although i am NOT implying thorsten and chamat made one). As far as the philipinos are concerned, i know for a fact they regularly do business. There is one philipino (who shall remain nameless) who is perceived as an "outsider" and they do not inlcude him.

Since all the 6 finalists are not us residents, it is important to note that if a player does not have a social security number, 30% is withheld for taxes at time of payout. seems kind of steep since pool players would be considered independent contractors, with an opportunity to claim significant deductions, resulting in payments to the government that i suspect would be less than 30% on average.

Did everyone forget about derby? Luat beat efren in the semis if efren wins that match he has a chance to win 20,000 for the all around.
