A rookie sales rep wants to work on intermediate skills. The intermediate sales rep wants to work on advanced skills. Yet, a wise advanced sales rep works on the basics.

My golf game is pretty fragile. When I go for lessons and my guy asks what I want to work on I always say " show me how to grip the club and take a stance", no matter how much or how good I've been play.
Yes! In both golf and pool I find the grip and stance are so important. I feel good about my grip in both and struggle with my stance and consistency of stance in both.
Great quote, very applicable to pool, golf, and many things in life I think.
You should work on the basics until they come natural without thinking about them and this will be required for your playing career. When you're playing you don think about the basics just decide what you want and shoot and let it happen.
