I finally went for that GCIII I discussed in my first post on this forum :
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=64399

I have attached some pics of the dismount of the table and it shows some concerns but
also some relief :

brass_center: As many have experienced, the so called brass look has been totally worn off.
I have done a regular clean up to get rid of dirt which has been building up inside the pocket wall
and other places, but is there anyone who has managed to "paint" it in a way so it looks like "brass"
again? What?s the procedure ?

center_pocket: Just a picture of the mounting holes. The cloth looked pretty good :-)

cloth_corner: This is how it was stapled together. As some of you may see, the table has had many
rounds of new cloth....

slate: The slate looked very nice. No dents or anything, mostly dust and dirt.
slate2: The slate overview before removing.

slate_side: The owner of the pool hall mentioned that the tables might have had a rerun of new cloth
as many as 16times. Should I be concerned about the wood? I really don?t feel like changing the supporting
wood under the slate. I guess I have a test run and have a look. Is this extreme or has any of you seen
something like this? The good thing is that the slate is the thick version (I think it?s 38mm thick).

I?m thinking on sanding down the skirts and repainting them, but some of the dents is pretty deep so
I would need to sand them pretty hard. I?m not sure if this is worth the most likely hard work?

Any comments is highly appreciated.

Kent

Check out these pocket caps for your Gold Crown III

http://cgi.ebay.com/BRUNSWICK-BILLIARDS-NEW-GOLD-CROWN-3-POCKET-CAPS_W0QQitemZ330082204587QQihZ014QQcategoryZ21210QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Not sure of the procedure for refinishing your caps but i suspect it would be the same for painting any metal object:

Remove old finish
Lightly Sand
Prime
Paint (use a metallic finish)

Look in your local yellowpages for companys that refinish metal objects (chrome, powdercoat etc)

As far as the wood on the slate, as long as it is not chewed up badly you can still use it to staple your new cloth to it.

Tony.

I have seen those new ones on the web and they look of course very nice. I do however feel that $350 is a little more than I had planned to pay. I live in europe and then I have to add $30-$50 in shipping and then add 25% VAT on everything. I?ll have a go on the yellowpages and see if there is anyone dealing with this where I live.

The wood is not chewed at all, just a lot of holes in them after staples so I really hope that the cloth would stay there after clotch install.

Thanks

table

Who ever felted that table did a horible job. They stapled the felt wrong and did not stretch the felt properly in the corners to hide the slate.
Good Luck my friend. Thanx, Ron www.lccsbilliards.com

If you look at the slate picture from the side, you clearly see some vice guy used the staple gun in the midle of the slate.... The marks are there but except from that the slate looked ok. I was kind of surpriced to see that the felt was barely visable in the corner.. I'll do a better job ;-)

cloth

I did not mean to critisize you work. If you are going to cut the cloth like that in the corner, then glue a piece of felt to the slate under neath to hide the slate. It will take a little more time, but will look alot nicer and keep the balls from getting nicked up. Thanx, Ron

Ron

I have not touched the table until the dismounting since I bought it from a pool hall. It has been placed at the exact same spot for many many years so I do not know who have done what with the table. The balls would however not be damaged by the limited amount of cloth, since there was a thick paperstrip with cloth attached to it, which was stapled as the picture of the center pocket show.
Anyway, the cloth it self was actually pretty nice and not very much used.Played great :-)

Castings

Look into getting the corner and side castings powder coated. Makes for an excelent finish and is fairly reasonable.

Or find someone local who can electroplate them.
