I will be doing my stats for the upcoming TAR 19 PPV on Oct 12, 13th and 14th with the Shane Van Boening/Mika Immonen match.

This should be a really exciting match and I will be keeping track of my usual stats... Break and Runs, Makeable missed shots and number of racks broke, number of balls on the break and other stuff.

All of those keep me very busy in each game, as I got to manually type in info each game. Another large part of each game, is my summary of the game that I type in for each game.

This is what I wanted to ask about. I briefly describe how each game was played out.

My question is..... does anyone read these? When you put a lot of time and effort into something, you would like to know if you are using your time wisely. If hardly anyone reads it, then obviously it's probably a waste of time.

I wish I could add more stats, but keeping track of everything that goes on in a rack, every rack for hours, keeps me very busy to where I just don't have the time to track anything else.

I have attached the 1st part of my spreadsheet below to jog your memory and if you could tell me if you do or don't read the game descriptions, that would be helpful.

you can also go here and click on 1 of the previous matches to see a example of what I write.

Thanks for your feedback!

Maybe a typo....are your daily finishing totals of 30 games and 60 games right? Original press release said 35 & 70. Curious if that has changed?

"The match format is: Day one play until someone has won 35 games total at which time the days play is concluded. The players return on day two and battle until one of them has racked up 70 total wins. The final day will see the players return and play until one of the reaches 100 total victories and takes the $20,000 winner take all prize fund."

Since you are already doing the stats would you also keep stats like accu-stats does? It's called T.P.A (total performance average) Its really simple. You can call pat fleming and ask him how to do it. I'm such a sicko that I watched my match with shane and took both of our TPA's.

Everything I'm doing is available to the public, so they can do whatever they want with it. I'm not much of a math guy:D I don't like to do anything more than add, subtract, multiply and divide.

c'mon guys.... 3 out of 4 people that have replied, never answered my question, which was the entire purpose of the post.

To answer your question... yes, but thats it for me. I would look at your stats, say wow this is pretty cool, maybe notice a few key stats, then never look at it again.

Not to be discouraging, but for me personally I wouldn't do much more with it than look at it once. Now, if everyone looks at it, you have propably done everyone a great service.

I think there is a small community in the forum that looks at these things. I have done the Accu-stats on all the DVDs I own and have gotten some very positive feedback from what I have posted so far. You can click on the link in my signature if you want to look at this. I use an excel spreadsheet with a lot of the calculation being automated and if you want a copy email me and I will send you my current template file.

How about scratches? Or combinations? Or fouls? Or length of match? Or # of times hooked?
Just some thoughts, look forward to it, sure you will do great.

Thanks, but did you read this?

My question was not about how many stats a person could come up with, as this is all done in real time, as in LIVE, but was if anyone read the game summary in my stats that I do for each game.

Let me pose the question again.....

Does anyone read the game summaries that I write, even once?

Answers can be, Yes I read them or No I never read them.

Thanks to those of you that answer my question:smile:

Those are certainly very complete stats. It would be almost impossible to do all that live though, unless someone had a program written where they could just click on a field or something, even then it would be tough to do.

My stats are not meant to try and emulate those kind of stats. Mine are more to do with providing people, in real time, some quick stats as they're watching the match.

After watching Day 1 and seeing Shane had a 7 game lead, one could go back and see that Mika missed 4 makeable shots to Shane's 1, or notice that Mika had 7 Break and Runs, but Shane had only 2, or that Shane seemed to be making 2-3 balls on the break consistently, whereas Mika would make none a lot of the time. Some numbers that help the overall viewing experience, it adds another dimension to it.

Just something to add to the overall enjoyment of watching the match and to have some numbers to go with it. Also, for those of you that could not watch the match, for whatever reason, it would give them a good idea of what was going down.

LOL the answer to your question............ Yes.......I do read the stats and appreciate the time and effort you have put into them! Thank you.

Actually, since it is an excel spreadsheet most of the fields auto-update as you fill out the columns of info for the players. I never used it live before, but I think it might be usable in that situation.

CaliRed, I'm pretty sure the majority of us check your stats info. I can understand if you feel like it is time consuming, only do it if you enjoy during it and providing the service.

Yes, I'm sure it probably auto updates the cells, based on the formula's that are in other cells, but mine does all that too.

I'm just saying there is no way I could ever put all of those stats in while the game is going on live. I mean if I had to mark every time a safety was attempted, how well they executed the safety (left a edge, full hook) and then every attempt from the incoming player (good hit, kicked safe, sold out, made it) how many times they push out, did opponent take the shot , give it back.... it's just way too much while it's going on live.

Here's the way a typical game goes for me.

I mark who is breaking
I mark how many balls they made on the break
I start typing about how the table is laid out
I need to look at every shot that is shot, as I need to make sure I see if they miss or if something else falls in
I'm continuing to count balls the current player is shooting
I'm continuing typing about what is going on in the game
I'm marking if someone misses, how many balls they made so far
Once the game's done, I'm marking up who won the game, how many balls each person made, whether it was a break and run, who's breaking on the next game.
Finishing up describing how the game went and who won

By the time I'm all done with this, the person has already broke and is running again.

If I ever get a 2 min gap, I save my xls file as a htm file, then upload all my files via FTP to my website ( I do this so people may follow along with the game, for those that cannot purchase the PPV) It's not live but it's usually updated every 6 or 7 games.

This literally is the hardest thing I've ever done, considering every moment of every game is spent doing something. The stress is incredible, as your mind is constantly active doing something every moment, your hands are actively doing something every moment, your eyes are constantly looking at one monitor to watch the action and then over at another monitor to enter info.

It is constant stress and activity for every second of every minute for 5 or 6 hours straight. The only time you can slip away to go to the bathroom or anything is when the players take a break.

That's why I was trying to find out if anyone even reads my description of the game. If it sounded like hardly anyone did, then I may not do it, as that takes up a lot of time during the game. But if many did enjoy the play by play action, then I would continue to do it.

But I'm not getting much feedback on the only question I asked, which was DO PEOPLE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME?:D

I love all the extra conversation too... but so far, I've only got 1 or 2 responses that come close to answering my question, and I've got 10 other responses which don't address my question. Even the 1 or 2 people that came close, still do not address my question specifically. They've said they look at the stats, but .....

I still cannot get anyone to answer a very simple question.

DO YOU READ/ENJOY the DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME field of my stats?

It's really making me pull my hair out ----- Everyone must be doing this intentionally to me, giving me every comment/answer in the book, except what I actually asked:D:grin::)

It is here, where I insert the Face Palm!

That is the only reason I do it, to share with my fellow pool brothers.

hehe .. my question was not if anyone looked at my stats or felt they were worthwhile or anything like that......

The question was......

DOES ANYONE READ/ENJOY THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME that I provide in the stats...:D
If hardly anyone read the play by play description of the game, I probably wouldn't bother with it

If many did, I would keep doing it.

That's all I'm trying to find out here ... hehe... I'm going to go put my head in a vise and ask the person that I just told them they were stupid and ugly and their Mom wasn't that good, to come over here and maybe just tighten it a tiny bit.:D
