The Iceman's time has come in connecticut. Go Mika!

It would certainly be a nice story if Mika wins it, but he'd have to play at a completely different level than he did in NYC this weekend. He didn't really play well in most of his matches, falling 5 - 1 behind to Lee Chen Man, falling 6 - 4 behind to Joey Korsiak, getting beaten convincingly by Charlie Bryant, and taking a sound beating from Tony Robles. His win over Steve Lillis certainly didn't mean much, so the only match in which he played well was the double hill win over Bustamante. Then again, Francisco appears to be in a slump right now. Of course, anything can happen in the ICOC, so I'd rather not make any predictions. Wish I could have gone, but it wasn't meant to be.

Thomas Engert won the ICOC beating countryman Thorsten Hohmann in the finals. For Engert, who always has been very skilled, this is the first major international tournament victory. He has been in the shadow of Souquet, Ortmann but maybe this will boost his confidence. You know, Thomas Engert has countless European titles and has run almost 500 in straight pool, 492 or 493 to be exact !! So getting success outside European soil for Engert has been a matter of gaining confidence IMHO...

Go Engert !
