I'd pay to see this...

Everyone's had those times where the stroke feels good, and you feel like you can't miss, so you start experimenting with some stroke shots or whatnot. Can you imagine what that would look like for some of the best strokes in the world? I'd pay to see that, and I think a lot of the pool playing public (the TAR/Accustats crowd) would do the same.

Trick shot exhibitions are entertaining, and guys like Mike Massey, Tom Rossman, and the gang are great at what they do. I don't want to take away from what these guys are doing, because it's all very difficult takes an incredible amount of time, energy and skill to put together an exhibition like they do. They've done a great job promoting the sport through their craft. But anymore, a lot of trickshots have become about props and setup shots.

I'd love to see a cue sports olympics of sorts where it's all about pure skill with a cue. I'm imagining a number of events just off the top of my head:

Proposition shots (stroke shots as opposed to hustles)
Longest Draw
Longest Follow
Hardest Break
Shooting Accuracy
Longest stationary spinning shot
Highest/farthest jump with jump cue/full cue
3-4-5 rail position shots to small zones
Obstacle course (using force follow/draw and/or english for position w/accuracy)

I'm sure there are other events for 3 cushion tables, snooker tables, etc.

Putting together a prize fund might be a challenge, but who knows, maybe someone'd be willing to sponsor it. There could be prizes for the individual events and for the all around top performance.

Regardless, I think it'd be fun to watch, and more importantly, I'd pay to see it. Kind of like a long drive contest in golf, or the skills challenge at the All Star games for the NBA or NHL.

What do you folks think? Derby City next year?

A Stroke Shot Challenge would definitely be interesting to watch.

With all of the big egos in pool, it should bring out the big guns.

I remember seeing an accustats video of Kim Davenport's Target Pool. Buddy, Kim, Andam, CJ,...and a few more I can't remember...all played the game for a pretty big paycheck. Although it's a niche product, it was entertaining to watch. Imagine if they were allowed to let the stroke out!

If this type of competition occurs, my money is on Nevel for biggest draw.

Let's take this a bit further and go ahead and offer our pick for winners in the above mentioned categories.

Proposition shots (stroke shots as opposed to hustles)
Longest Draw - COREY
Longest Follow - WHO KNOWS
Hardest Break - HILLBILLY
Shooting Accuracy - EFREN
Longest stationary spinning shot - MASSEY
Highest/farthest jump with jump cue/full cue - EARL or NEVEL

Nice choices!

My only changes (impressions?) would be:

Longest Follow - Shane Van Boening
Hardest Break - Evgeny Stalev (fastforward to 9:20 in this video)
Shooting Accuracy - Ronnie O'Sullivan (check this video out for potting accuracy!)
