If The Pbt Were To Reform...???

Well said, Blud, though I suspect this thread pertains to a new tour in theoretical terms, and not necessarily a descendant tour of the PBT.

Still, as you've noted, lessons need to be learned from the PBT experience. As always, the solution lies in ensuring some independent oversight and administration of the tour. Accountants, non-player board members, and ocasionally lawyers, are the key to such oversight. The PBT was an organization in which the inmates ran the asylum, and that mistake must not be repeated.

Finally, no top-flight tournament should ever be played again without the purse money escrowed in advance with funds designated as prize money.

Well stated, cash in the bank first.
I directed my posted comments to no one or any association.
Facts, i took a big loss with the PBA or PBT whatever you want to call it.........almost 40 large, with interest, over 50 large....but he's playing golf every day.....living on our money.

Hi David...sorta long reply

Well first let me start off by saying hi and that i hope to se you at the open as usual this year. Now to your question. First you would have to rename it i think. I believe Mr mackey owns that name. PBT. Camel ,rjr, only came on board for 1 reason i believe with the pbt. it was to get in good with the APA in which they are still sponsoring i believe. i may be wrong on that one. and if they are sponsoring it it would mean they could not sponsor a mens tour. they would want tv exposure in exchange for their money. and did'nt mr mackey ruin all chances with a mens tour and camel or rjr when Mr Mackey sued Camel, rjr, and won that supposidly 900k a few years back. as for a network to show the mens tour, i would find out about MSG. Heck they keep showing some trick shot thing that Earl won a while back. Now lets get to the players. Are you thinking you can get 64 top players to show up for an event. Mr mackey used to use the term, i can guarantee you 32 of the top 64 players in the world if you hold an event. The local promoters would put up something like 25k for an event and fill the fields every time. And they would pay a sanctioning fee to the PBT. Out of which the PBT would take out an insurance policy guaranteeing the purses. Mr mackey also had the top players under contract to the PBT just like Mr Williams and the UPA. I remember 1 tournament, 14.1 was being held in chicago or cleveland 1 year. it was being put on by the WPA at the time. the WPA refused to let the PBT sanction the event and not 1 top player from Mr Mackeys list showed up. I believe Mike Zuglan showed up and won it. That is how strong the PBT was. But now a days the players are going to whereever the money is. there is no real strong mens sanctioning body other than the upa.. and look what they have done. banned earl. Corey. Keith, and frankie hernandez. Actually i think frankie is back in their good graces. I wish you good luck with this my friend if you really want to try to do this. But with the upa having almost everybody under contract it is going to be hard. but i think it can be done. I even have a couple of ideas on who you can approach for sponsorship... just send me an email and i will let you know. my ideas. i don't wanna give anything away on here... wandering eyes you know...................................miike

First of all, I'd like to thank you all for your input on this. Of course, the PBT itself could not make it today it will need alot of changes to make it work and we must take what we've learned in the past and correct it. The main thing that should be done is to find a better sponsor for the tour. I'd like to think that some big companies would be interested in sponsoring such a thing; AOL/Google/Nextel/etc... Next, eliminate the UPA - and reorganize a new men's tour that will not seperate players apart by silly contracts and stipulations. A season needs to be drawn up with at least 1 tournament a month, and get setup with a TV channel that will give exclusive coverage to the tournament (no ESPN, they've messed it up too much) maybe USA/Spike TV/HBO. I mean, the factors that go into this are endless and need to be well thought out and executed well without fail. Blud had made comments about issues with $$$, bring in a third party to handle all accounts and payouts (money must be accounted for before a tournament can start) and make sure that all debts are paid. The PBT cannot come back, it must be done under a new name and be headed and ran by people who are not in it to make money, but for the greater benifit of the sport. So I ask you, a new professional billiard tour, under new name and management, willing to accept all players under a unified flag, where no one will be wondering about being paid, and all can be happy to recongize that this IS the men's pro tour and there is none greater than this... Thank you to all who share and help us along this journey and maybe one day, we could see this as a reality.

Starting a new tour?

This is an interesting post. Is it about smoking or starting an new tour? my question is what package are you going to offer thie large corporate sponors? you think you're going to walk up to them in your suit and say, "hey give me millions, and I will start a new pro pool tour."

They won't let you through the front door. You go to your grandmother to borrow start-up money, not a corp. They want to see stats, background, numbers, player's contracts, media contracts, etc.

I'll tell you what, you go ask for the money, give it to me, and I'll do all the paperwork for you .... aha

oh yea, remember, smokers don't know how much they stink.
