If there was a rating system for gambling.

A lot of us play better if there is even .25 on the line.
If you have to reach into your pocket, it hurts and you want to win even more.

That being said, if there was a Fargo type rating for gambling, do you think your rating would be higher?
In addition, do you think that the current Fargo ratings would be correct for gambling, say the top 100.

I feel sorry for you.
If the love of the game itself is not enough motivation, why do you continue to play ??

Depends on how the rating is calculated::

number of bets placed versus number of wins
or
amount of bets placed versus amount of won
And
what is the Fargo rating of 0/0 ??

I don't spend hours on my table doing drills so I can enter that no-entry fee, no payout tourney.
Some people don't like to compete. Some don't like to test themselves.
For those, pool is fun and not a competition, and there is nothing wrong with that.

A few years ago I decided to pick up tennis to improve my fitness.
I had not played tennis since college. Within two months of hitting balls I entered my first tournament.
It started with wanting to get in shape but ended with wanting to compete -and there is nothing wrong with that.
No need to feel sorry for someone who does not think like, or look at things, like you do.

Good for you James... Also isn't that table, box, some of the best all around exercise that ever was... Guy ,,, It don't take long on a table to walk a mile and the mind must be working...

Who ever wins the most, is the highest rated.

That’s not accurate as some guys don’t have big bank rolls to make the idea above valid.

It’s a great question, I’ve often wondered myself who’s the best for the cash. I know some guys who can’t play for the cash. I know some guys who play great for $100 and can’t hold hold a cue for $500. Funny how that works too. Which makes this question interesting and impossible to answer.

Great thread!

The most sets or the most money?

When you get good you’ll understand…unfortunately you probably won’t ever be good enough to understand.

I can count on my hand the number of good pool players who don’t gamble…and every single one of them i would rob if we ever did.

Buddy's brother comes to mind. Played great for fun.

I enjoy rolling balls in but sometimes $5 sharpens the focus. I've had great fun playing for free, not even keeping score. Playing for money can be different. I get satisfaction but it isn't exactly fun. Like building a deck isn't particularly fun, but it is gratifying to make something.

.25 cents. i just leave them on a table anytime i get coins for whoever wants to pick them up. they weigh too much to carry around.

now that im old i will occasionally let someone only bet 20 a game one pocket just for something to do. the winner doesnt even get to pay for dinner for two most times at a restaurant.

i think they still play tiddly winks some places for nothing.

You high rollers have everything out of proportion. A 12'er is NOT a box.

Nope... uh uh...
I spose ur rite a 12’ box isn’t a box it’s a monster. I miss mine. Snooker tables are my all time favorite to play on. I really enjoyed the 10’ American snooker tables too, playing 3 or 6 cherry $ games. Golf was never for me-ok to sweat, but I couldn’t play it. The golf game at Hardtimes went for years and years. I miss that. Liability was fun.

I’ll play $20 pool no matter how bad of a game I’m in or out of stroke. Fun way to keep score.

For me putting a value on everything I do is important. Of course if I have way the worst of it-I don’t want to waste too much money. But free-play just goes against my principal in life. However if someone doesn’t like action-I don’t disrespect them, that’s their choice.
