what do i do if the '1' ball consistently is hitting long past the side pocket and ending up down table near the short rail? seems like this happens alot, and therefore i never have a shot on the '1'.

what am i doing wrong?
or how do i correct this?

Where are you placing the cue ball to break from? Where are you aiming to hit on the 1 ball and what type of hit are you putting on the cue ball?

what is wrong with that?

what english do you use? are you trying to squat the cueball in the center of the table??? (center ball) or are you just slaming the rack... or what? if you are using center ball then i would suggest dropping your tip about a half tip below center that way you arent drawing the crap out of the ball and you still get a good firm hit on the rack. the when the 1 ball drops past the side pocket you will more than likely have a shot. thats what i do anyway and it works most of the time... unless a ball gets in the way

lately i have been breaking about 6" to 10" off the rail, on the right side of the table. i have been trying to just stop the cue ball right in the middle of the table.

the problem is that the '1' rolls down to the end rail, and with the cue ball in the middle i have no shot. or else the table long bank.

i tried hitting the cue a hair low last night so i might have a better shot on the '1', but, of course, the cue came down table towards the end rail and the '1' got knocked around someplace else this time. just the way my luck goes.

Breaking ...

Practice these 2 breaks till you get them down.
Place the cue ball right behind the headstring line just inside on the 2nd diamond on either long rail. (Sidebreak for 9 ball). Just cue the cue ball like a draw shot straight center low, then raise your cue up 1/4" from the bottom, and strike the 1 ball straight on, not to the right or left, but in a straight line. Have some low english on the cue when you hit it. Make slight adjustments as necessary after practicing several times.

The other one is to place the cue ball on the headstring about 1-2 inches inside of the 1 diamond (right to left from back of table), cue the cue ball direct center then move cuetip towards 7:30 some and cue the cue ball there, and shoot with some draw to hit the one ball in a straight line just to the right of the center (about 35-40 degrees to the right of head on).

Both breaks make balls when done right, and the 1 ball usually ends up in the Kitchen somewhere with the cue ball near the center of the table or in the kitchen with the 1 ball. Both breaks give a high percentage of 1 ball shots after the break .... Takes practice though ... You may have to execute both breaks 50-70 times each before you gain the proper knowledge of them to execute them well.
